The legends return: Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen is just one step away from joining the Dota Pro Circuit with his team Old G, which also consists of the old OG.

With Old G’s announcement to return to the DPC with the old OG players, fans were naturally ecstatic. But as is often the case, the new team was unable to replicate the success from the years when OG won the TI twice in a row. Could that be about to change now, though?

Rollercoaster season

Last season was sort of a roller coaster for fans of OG legends Sebastien “Ceb” Debs, Topson, and Johan “N0tail” Sundstein. A bit of relief came in December 2022 when it was announced that they would be joining Volodymyr “Noone” Minenko and Arif “MSS” Anwar under the new, Old G banner.

However, that quickly changed when the team suffered a string of defeats and ended their season before they could even get started. They failed to qualify for WEU Division II in the Closed Qualifier, shocking the whole community. This surely must have been truly disappointing for the squad because it didn’t take long until N0tail resigned. MSS also left the team shortly thereafter.

Old G were not finished yet

Although this caused an obstacle for the team, they weren’t quite finished yet. They found replacements in former T1 analyst Kartik “Kitrak” Rath and the Ukrainian star Roman “Resolut1on” Fomynok.

Things have been going uphill for Old G since then. Recently, the team swept through the Open Qualifier for Tour 2 of the DPC Western Europe Division II without losing a single game. However, the real challenge is yet to come for them in the Closed Qualifier, where they will face the remaining seven qualified teams fighting for one of the two slots available in the DPC Div II.

Considering the talented and experienced line-up, it shouldn’t be a problem for Old G to claim one of the two spots available in the DPC. Team Bald Reborn, who secured star player Aliwi “w33” Omar for their lineup, will likely be able to grab the second spot.

With that being said, only time will tell whether they will succeed in their mission to get into the DPC WEU Division II. If they manage to qualify, they will face teams like Alliance, Team Secret, Into The Breach, D2 Hustlers, Ancient Tribe, and IVY, starting on April 5.

The Closed Qualifier is set to take place between March 19-22.
