Dark Seer is an excellent hero in Dota 2 patch 7.33c but the truth is that he’s been a great pick for the offlane role throughout most of the game’s history.

Dark Seer excels at farming against almost any enemy carry and he also puts a lot of pressure on that lane. This generally forces rotations, which in turn gives your own position 1 hero an excellent laning phase.

Dark Seer’s strengths

Dark Seer currently has a win rate of 54% and he is picked in less than 3% of matches. The reason why so few people pick him is that he’s not as fun to play as other offlaners. He’s extremely strong in the early game and will get his core items in just 15-20 minutes. But there’s not much to do with him in team fights.

When you pick Dark Seer, the only thing you care about is winning. Because you won’t have that much fun. The laning phase is very easy for this hero. You just use Ion Shell on your creeps and try to last-hit as much as possible without getting killed. If you’re dealing with a melee carry, that’s great news.

In most scenarios, by the time you’re level 3, you can force the enemy carry to stay back while getting last-hits and even denying some of his creeps. The creep wave will often be under his own tower, which means he will lose even more last hits.

If he’s left alone by his support, you can go for a kill. Just use Ion Shell and Surge, and put one point in Vacuum. By the time you’re level 7, you can farm the jungle with ease and your lane opponents will have a hard time playing against you. If they try anything, you can escape with Surge, which gives you maximum movement speed for 3-6s.

Dark Seer tends to buy either Guardian Greaves, Pipe of Insight, or Crimson Guard. Quite often, he buys all of them. He is the perfect utility hero because he can farm with ease and stay alive for a long time during fights.

In many cases, having a Blink Dagger is essential not just for survival but also for initiation purposes. If you have this item, you can just blink in, use Vacuum into Wall of Replica and then put an Ion Shell on one of the enemies. One should already be on yourself when you go in. This combination deals a massive amount of damage.
