Why are Apex pros complaining about the ALGS’ slot rule?

Some Apex Legends pros have been critical of the way the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) distributes slots across the league. More and more esports organizations have dropped out of the league, and some of the players from those organizations are looking to build their rosters for the next split.

Several slots in the league became available after multiple organizations left Apex Legends esports. In some cases, the places were taken by the organization’s former players. The rules state that only two of the players who took part in the last split must remain on a roster to retain the spot. Not everyone likes that.

Is the slot rule being exploited unfairly?

Players like TSM’s Phillip “ImperialHal” Dosen have criticized this rule, claiming that some teams are exploiting this rule by listing one of these two players as a substitute just to keep the spot in the league. Teams can hold their ALGS spot if two players remain on the team between splits.

ImperialHal slammed those teams on the stream recently, most notably Mac “Albralelie” Beckwith’s team, which also includes Paris “StayNaughty” Gouzoulis, Trenton “lou” Clements, and Aidan “rocker” Grodin, the latter as a substitute. He has claimed that rocker gave up his place in the pro league to StayNaughty and stayed with the team as a substitute to keep his place in the league.

rocker and StayNaughty both played for Cloud9 until the North American organization withdrew from Apex Legends in December 2022. rocker then announced his retirement from the professional league a month later.

Albralelie returns to NA ALGS

After Cloud9 retired from the Apex League, Albralelie player is now returning to the ALGS along with his then-teammate StayNaughty. Although he is a content creator for TSM, he was listed as a substitute for FaZe Clan during the last split. Also on his team will be lou, who was dropped by the Sentinels after an unsuccessful Split 1.

Albralelie is considered a constant but not an outstanding player. He started his career in 2019 and quickly landed at TSM, but after a year he decided to focus on streaming. He has otherwise played for Team Liquid, but like C9 and FaZe, he was only listed as a substitute. His biggest achievement was first place at the Apex Legends Preseason Invitational with TSM.

He unveiled his new team on February 16, which will be dubbed “LAN” in NA ALGS Group B against teams like Dark Zero, NRG Esports and The Guard when the league restarts in March.
