Dota creator IceFrog and Valve are reportedly collaborating on a new Dota 2 spin-off project called Neon Prime.

While it has been quite some time since Valve released a game, it seems the developers are working on a new project, as they have registered a trademark for Neon Prime, which could be a reference to a brand-new video game IP. According to Tyler McVicker’s sources, Neon Prime is most likely going to be a Dota universe expansion that will allow it to further explore the MOBA’s previously existing lore. Even though rumors and leaks about Valve’s development on new projects are frequently unreliable and susceptible to change, they are always intriguing to learn about. So, here is everything we know about Valve’s new project Neon Prime.

The game’s premise was the only information provided, but if it is accurate, it seems that IceFrog, the creator of Dota, will be in charge of the new title. But this negates some of McVicker’s prior game-related speculation, which cited IceFrog’s involvement but emphasized that Neon Prime would presumably not be linked to any current Valve IP. Recent reports, however, imply that IceFrog gave up on his initial plans to attempt anything new and chose to remain loyal to the current IP. However, it might be a brand-new project, a new installment in an ongoing series, or even a new update or event for a game that is already in play.

Here’s everything we know about Valve’s new project Neon Prime

According to McVicker’s sources, the upcoming game won’t be an FPS, which fits in perfectly with the fact that it will allegedly be set in the Dota universe. Furthermore, this game has absolutely nothing to do with Half-Life: Citadel, another project that Valve has been working on. McVicker has a track record of being an unreliable source, frequently disclosing incorrect information and leaking unofficial details that later proved to be totally inaccurate.

However, McVicker’s claims do have some weight given he accurately disclosed information regarding Valve’s VR title Half-Life: Alyx years before it was made public. While the gaming community seemed excited by the rumors and conjecture, fans are aware that it is unwise to expect anything from Valve before it has been officially confirmed. In addition to Neon Prime, Valve is also working on a number of other projects that are already announced to the public. One of these initiatives is called Citadel, and it seeks to offer asynchronous multiplayer for users of VR and regular PCs.
