One of the organizers and producers of the event that has provided the most support for the development of professional CS:GO players, the WePlay Academy League, announced last Friday, March 31, that the league will be paused until the end the war in Ukraine.

It is no secret to anyone that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine affects many people in different industrial sectors in many areas. Esports, of course, do not escape from this, and even more so if we consider that in recent times, we have seen many players with exceptional play coming from these two countries.

Now, one of the tournaments aimed at supporting the development of young players in the CS:GO scene has announced its pause due to this terrible situation in Ukraine.

WePlay Academy League announces a pause until the war in Ukraine is over

Through a statement on its official blog, WePlay Esports announced a pause in the WePlay Academy League circuit until the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

In the official statement, WePlay Esports notes that they pause the Academy circuit until the end of the terrible full-scale war raging in Ukraine for over a year. They further note that this decision was made with all participating teams and organizations.

WePlay Academy held six seasons of the circuit for almost two years, created in collaboration with leading CS:GO organizations. As mentioned, the goal of this league was to offer young people a development platform that would allow them to fulfill their dreams of playing at the highest competitive level.

In addition to the six seasons where most matches were played online, two LAN events were organized at the WePlay Esports Arena in Kyiv, Ukraine. And is that if we look at some of the players who have gone through this circuit, we can immediately realize that it has been the perfect springboard for young people to start their way into the professional scene.

Notable players who played the WePlay Academy

For example, we have Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, Ádám “torzsi” Torzsás, Jon “JDC” de Castro, Danyyl “headtr1ck” Valitov and many more players have come out of the WePlay Academy League farms and now shine in their professional teams.

On the other hand, the fact that the teams participating in this circuit are the academies of large organizations made many spectators follow the games. We all like to get to know the new talents before they leap to the pro scene.

WePlay Esports claims that safety is the most important thing for them

The official statement ends with the organization explaining that one of the main reasons for this pause is that, due to the current situation, it is impossible to organize a circuit with such a high level as they have been used to.

In addition, they explain that the safety of the staff and all the teams and players of the circuit is their top priority.

Finally, the organizers do not close the doors of the circuit; as they say, this is not a goodbye but a “see you soon.”
