While Fortnite has been around since late 2017, the active player base has grown significantly. It remains popular even after iOS users were ignored and over 100 million people were locked out of the game.

Now, one question we can’t ask is how Fortnite maintains its player base and its users keep returning to the game every season. Although many may think it is due to free-to-play nature being the main reason, this is not entirely accurate.

Read on to learn how Fortnite manages to entertain all its users.

Ways in which Fortnite entertains its players

Rotating loot pool

The game’s loot varies a bit with each season. While some of the older ones are brought back, new artifacts and weapons are added. Occasionally, the original artifacts and weapons are also retired. Even if it is a minor tweak, players always look forward to the arrival of new items.

When certain items or weapons are reintroduced into the loot, players who have been around since the early days of the game but don’t play as often often often return. Since Chapter 3 began, the game developers have added quite a few innovative items and weapons, so we can say there is always something new.

Evolution of history

Many players think of Fortnite as a battle royale game, but there is much more to it than that. Only a few know that a story has been developing from the beginning. The plot’s events influence the gameplay, even though the field has changed and grown over time.

Players who have followed these events closely have become engrossed in the game and eagerly await the conclusion of the season’s plot. While it can be argued that not every season develops the story, there is some build-up in general.

Collaborations and exclusives in the Battle Pass

Fortnite’s Battle Pass is always impressive or stands out from the competition. Each season a new Battle Pass is added to the game, allowing players to purchase dozens of cosmetic items for just 950 V-Bucks.

Epic Games often includes skins of important or well-known characters from other stories or franchises in the Battle Pass and original skins and other cosmetic items. Players have developed a genuine desire to acquire them in the game because they are iconic.

The creators have introduced top-tier characters in the Battle Pass for several consecutive seasons. For example, chapter 3, Season 1 included The Foundation (Leader of The Seven), while Chapter 3, In this opportunity, the collaboration is with Kid LAROI

New mechanics and features

Over time, Fortnite has changed to become more dynamic. The creators made an effort to include all the new features and extras one might look for in a battle royale game. Reality boosts, added at the beginning of Chapter 4, illustrate a new feature. In addition, players can choose up to four “perks” for each game.

Three new game mechanics were introduced in Chapter 3:

  • Sliding
  • Sprinting
  • Mantling

Each mechanic has a prerequisite to be used in a match and a sub-function. Each season, the dynamic is expanded and gives more freedom to the players to play as they wish.

Fear of missing out (FOMO)

The fear of missing out, or FOMO, is one of the best strategies used by Fortnite creators to keep players hooked. While the above arguments alone may not be convincing, they are more so when considering that everything is time-limited.

Chances are that those who have invested time and V-Bucks into the game will not skip seasons. This is evidenced by the fact that five years after the game’s release, you can still see “OG” players from Chapter 1 playing it. Although not everyone agrees, this strategy seems to have been successful so far.
