The Washington Justice have announced that main tank Gye “rOar” Chang-hoon has left the team. The South Korean veteran had been with the Overwatch team since October 2019, having arrived in Washington from the Los Angeles Gladiators ahead of the 2020 Overwatch League season.

ROar had completed his rookie season with the Gladiators, with the main tank having been part of an ever-changing tank line at the Justice, with both Elliott “ELLIVOTE” Vaneryd and Lukas “LullSiSH” Wiklund having left Washington in the middle of the season. Justice signed Choi “JJANU” Heyong-woo to operate alongside rOar on the frontline, with the former Vancouver Titans player having regularly outperformed his compatriot.

What Lead to the Departure of rOar at the Justice?

However, it was ultimately the surprise arrival of DPS Jang “Decay” Gui-un, that saw rOar’s playing time decrease during the teams’ playoff campaign, along with the fact that the Justice discovered their skillful tank line of Jjanu’s Roadhog and Decay’s Zarya. However, rOar was, for an extended period, one of the few constants at the Washington Justice, who went through a host of roster changes. Leading DPS Corey “Corey” Nigra departed from the team following his retirement from Overwatch back in May, while Ethan “Stratus” Yankel also retired around the same time.

Announcing his departure on their official Twitter page, the Washington Roar posted the following message: “rOar, your positivity and conviction are just two of many reasons you will find success in your next chapter. We are grateful for everything you contributed in the name of Justice. Fare well, @rOar_ow”. It remains to be seen what the next step will be for the South Korean, who has formally played for Team Uniquness, LW Red and Team KongDoo Panthera.

How the Washington Justice Fared During the 2020 Season

Having finished the regular season in 19th position following a 4-17 record, Justice eventually made it through to the North American playoff bracket, where they ultimately came unstuck against the Philadelphia Fusion in the loser’s bracket finals. However, sweeps against the likes of the Florida Mayhem and Paris Eternal did give followers of the team hope for the upcoming Overwatch League season.
