Warner Bros. Working on New DC Live-Service Game like Marvel Rivals

Even though Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League went wrong and MultiVersus didn’t get too far, Warner Bros. still isn’t giving up. A WB Games Montréal job listing made very strong indications that yet another DC live-service title may be in the pipeline. The listing was for an Executive Producer who’ll be responsible for post-launch things and keeping the player base interested with updates and content releases.

Could it be a Marvel Rivals Clone?

A lot of people think this might just be a DC take on hero shooter. Marvel Rivals had a fast rise, reaching 40 million players in only a week. Seems like Warner Bros. wants to jump on that idea too. Even James Gunn said before he would’ve liked something like Marvel Rivals, but with DC heroes. So now many fans believe this new title is gonna be something similar, with DC characters replacing Marvel ones.

Fan Reactions Online: Predominantly Negative

Reddit and other community gamers are not very happy about it. They’re still angry with the way Suicide Squad happened, and they don’t wish to have another live-service that fails again.

WB Games Montréal, the studio behind Gotham Knights, is currently working on this new one. Unfortunately, they didn’t deliver much with their latest work. Suicide Squad: KTJL cost Warner Bros. approximately $200M, and players departed in a hurry. MultiVersus debuted well but could not sustain players for long.

This new endeavor, which appears to be still in an extremely early phase, could also be going into the same dangerous space again.

Could This Be the “DC Rivals”?

However, Warner Bros. could be aiming for the same concept, placing heroes such as Batman, Superman, or Flash in a 4v4 shooter format. With proper polish, it could get the attention of fans, but only if executed correctly.

Although most fans desire deep solo stories on DC games, Warner Bros. is once more opting for the live-service option. From what has been observed, the job listing and the market trend, it’s highly possible that the next DC game will be a multiplayer hero shooter like Marvel Rivals. Since the labor is courtesy of WB Games Montréal, the fans are interested but concerned as well. If this one also fails, it may damage even more the faith in WB’s games among people.
