Team Vitality are back on top of a Counter-Strike 2 podium. The European lineup defeated Aurora 3-1 in the StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026 Grand Final in Barcelona, securing its first tournament victory since May.
The win completed a demanding final day for Vitality, who had already beaten FURIA in the consolidation final before facing Aurora. Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut once again became the key figure, finishing the Grand Final with a 1.51 rating and later receiving the tournament MVP award.
Vitality Turn the Aurora Rematch Around
The Grand Final was not Vitality’s first meeting with Aurora at the tournament. Aurora had defeated Dan “apEX” Madesclaire’s squad 2-1 in the upper-bracket final one day earlier, forcing Vitality into the lower side of the bracket.
That made Sunday’s title match an immediate rematch, but the second series looked very different.
Vitality took control early and dominated Anubis 13-4. Aurora answered on Inferno, winning the map 13-11 to level the series, but Vitality quickly regained momentum. Mirage ended with another one-sided 13-4 score before Vitality closed the final 13-7 on Cache.
The Grand Final results were:
- Anubis: Vitality 13-4 Aurora
- Inferno: Aurora 13-11 Vitality
- Mirage: Vitality 13-4 Aurora
- Cache: Vitality 13-7 Aurora
The 3-1 result was especially notable because Vitality had already played FURIA earlier on the same day. Across both series, the team completed six maps in a single afternoon before lifting the trophy.
ZywOo Takes Over the Tournament
ZywOo was once again at the center of Vitality’s success. The French AWPer produced a 1.51 rating in the Grand Final and finished the entire tournament with a 1.50 rating.
His overall numbers put him comfortably ahead of the rest of the field. ZywOo also led StarSeries Fall in several important statistical categories, including ADR and kills per round.
The performance earned ZywOo the 33rd MVP award of his career.
His StarSeries Fall numbers included:
- 1.50 tournament rating
- 92.2 average damage per round
- 0.89 kills per round
- 0.57 deaths per round
The award continues an exceptional individual record for the French star. It was also a significant result after a period in which Vitality had struggled to reproduce the dominance shown earlier in the year.
StarSeries Fall 2026 Final Standings
The Barcelona event featured eight teams and a $500,000 total prize pool. Vitality collected $100,000 for first place, while Aurora earned $65,000 as runners-up.
| Placement | Team | Prize |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Vitality | $100,000 |
| 2nd | Aurora | $65,000 |
| 3rd | FURIA | $35,000 |
| 4th | MIBR | $20,000 |
| 5th-6th | MOUZ / NRG | $10,000 each |
| 7th-8th | magic / NAVI | $5,000 each |
For Aurora, the defeat ended an otherwise strong tournament. The team’s new international lineup reached its first Grand Final and had already proven it could beat Vitality during the upper bracket.
The deciding series, however, showed how difficult it remains to contain Vitality when ZywOo reaches his highest level and the rest of the roster provides consistent support.
Vitality Finally Return to Winning Ways
The trophy ends a lengthy title drought by Vitality’s recent standards. Their previous tournament victory came at BLAST Rivals on May 3, leaving the team without a championship for roughly four and a half months.
That gap followed a period in which Vitality had established itself as one of the strongest teams in Counter-Strike. Recent events had therefore raised questions about whether the lineup could quickly return to its previous level.
StarSeries Fall provided an encouraging answer. Vitality not only survived the lower-bracket route but did so while playing two elimination series on the final day.
The full five-man lineup of apEX, ZywOo, Robin “ropz” Kool, William “mezii” Merriman and Shahar “flameZ” Shushan now leaves Barcelona with a trophy and renewed momentum.
Assessment
StarSeries Fall does not automatically mean Vitality have returned to the dominant form that defined their strongest periods. One tournament cannot establish a long-term trend, especially with more major events still ahead.
What the result does confirm is that Vitality remain capable of winning difficult events after being pushed into the lower bracket. Their response to the earlier Aurora defeat was particularly important, as they adjusted quickly and controlled three of the four maps in the Grand Final.
ZywOo’s performance is another positive sign. When he produces numbers at this level, Vitality remain extremely difficult to beat, while the team’s ability to handle six maps in one afternoon highlights the experience and endurance within the roster.
With ESL Pro League and the Singapore Major approaching, the StarSeries trophy gives Vitality valuable momentum. Whether Barcelona marks the beginning of another extended winning period will depend on how consistently the team can reproduce this level against the strongest opposition.
