The Rocket League tournament at the Esports World Cup 2026 has produced its first four playoff teams, with Team Vitality, Team Falcons, Spacestation Gaming and Ninjas in Pyjamas eStar advancing through the upper side of their groups.
Vitality delivered one of the cleanest performances of the second day by sweeping TSM 3-0. Falcons needed all five games to overcome Gentle Mates, while Spacestation Gaming stunned defending EWC champion Karmine Corp with a 3-0 victory.
The remaining teams now face a much less forgiving route. Lower-bracket matches will determine the final four playoff participants before the knockout stage begins on August 15.
Vitality continue perfect start against TSM
Vitality entered the upper-bracket series after defeating FURIA 3-1 in its opening match.
Against TSM, the French organization looked even stronger.
Vitality won all three games to complete a 3-0 sweep and secure its playoff position without entering the lower bracket. The individual game scores were 4-2, 3-2 and 4-0.
That progression also showed increasing control as the series developed. TSM came closest in the second game, but Vitality denied the equalizer before dominating the final game without conceding a goal.
Vitality’s route so far includes:
- 3-1 victory over FURIA in the opening round
- 3-0 sweep against TSM in the upper-bracket qualification match
- Direct qualification for the EWC 2026 playoffs
For an organization also competing for points across the wider Esports World Cup Club Championship, avoiding the lower bracket is particularly valuable.
Karmine Corp suffer unexpected 0-3 defeat
The biggest surprise from Group B came from defending champion Karmine Corp.
KC opened its tournament with a dominant 3-0 victory over Wildcard and appeared positioned for another straightforward qualification run. Spacestation Gaming had already survived a much tighter 3-2 series against MIBR.LOS.
The upper-bracket meeting went in the opposite direction.
Spacestation won three consecutive games, taking them 3-2, 2-1 and 2-1 to eliminate any possibility of a Karmine Corp comeback.

Karmine Corp’s defeat does not end its title defense, but it removes the margin for error that comes with progressing through the upper bracket.
The Paris Major champion now has to survive a lower-bracket qualification match to reach the playoffs.
Falcons survive five-game fight with Gentle Mates
Team Falcons faced a much tougher route to qualification.
After beating R8 Esports 3-1 on the opening day, Falcons met Gentle Mates, who had demolished Five Fears 3-0.
Falcons quickly established a 2-0 series lead, winning the first two games 2-0 and 2-1. Gentle Mates then mounted a strong response, taking Games 3 and 4 to force a deciding fifth game.
Falcons ultimately won the final game 3-2 and secured the series.
The match demonstrated several important qualities:
- Falcons remained composed after losing a two-game advantage
- Gentle Mates proved capable of challenging one of the tournament favorites
- The deciding game came down to a single-goal margin
Gentle Mates now joins Karmine Corp in the lower side of Group B, meaning both French organizations still have another opportunity to qualify.
NiP eStar complete dramatic five-game win
Ninjas in Pyjamas eStar became the second team to advance from Group A after defeating Twisted Minds 3-2.
The series constantly shifted momentum.
NiP eStar won the first two games before Twisted Minds responded by taking Games 3 and 4. The decider then developed into another close contest, with NiP eventually winning 5-4.
That victory followed NiP eStar’s 3-1 opening win over Shopify Rebellion.
The result places both NiP eStar and Vitality safely into the playoffs, while Twisted Minds must wait for its lower-bracket opponent.
Eight teams still fight for four spots
The group stage is not finished.
Teams eliminated from the upper side now join the survivors of the initial lower-bracket matches. Four additional playoff places remain available, two from each group.
In Group A, TSM and Twisted Minds wait for the winners of the lower-bracket matches involving FUT Esports, Shopify Rebellion, NRG and FURIA.
Group B follows the same structure. Karmine Corp and Gentle Mates will face surviving teams from Wildcard, MIBR.LOS, R8 Esports and Five Fears.
That makes August 14 particularly important. Every remaining series becomes an elimination match, with the winner reaching the playoffs and the loser leaving the tournament.
Assessment
The second day of Rocket League at the Esports World Cup has already changed the shape of the tournament.
Vitality looks particularly convincing after winning six of seven games across its first two series. Falcons has also secured the result it needed, although Gentle Mates exposed vulnerabilities during their five-game battle.
Spacestation Gaming’s sweep of Karmine Corp is the biggest statement so far. Beating the defending champion is significant; doing it without dropping a game makes the result considerably harder to dismiss.
Karmine Corp remains alive, so the possibility of another deep run is still there. The same applies to Gentle Mates, TSM and Twisted Minds.
The difference is that those teams no longer have a second chance. With Vitality, Falcons, Spacestation and NiP eStar already waiting in the playoffs, the remaining group-stage matches will decide who joins them and whose EWC 2026 campaign ends before the weekend.
