The CS2 tournament from the Esports World Cup featured 15 teams and offered $1 million in prize money. Most of the world’s best teams attended the event and the winner was Natus Vincere.
From start to finish, the competition was full of excellent matches in which the strongest CS2 players in the world had the opportunity to showcase their skills, and they certainly did.
The MVP award was won by b1t, whose performance carried Na’Vi to the second S-tier trophy in 2024. With five months left to go, this was already a good year for the Ukrainian organization.
But how did the Esports World Cup perform in terms of audience numbers? How many people tuned in to watch this CS2 event and what do the numbers mean when compared to those of the Copenhagen Major or IEM Katowice?
Viewership Numbers
Esports World Cup 2024 had a total airtime of 43 hours and was watched for a total of 10,3 million hours.
The number of average viewers, according to Escharts, was 238.000. The number of peak viewers, registered during the Grand Final between Natus Vincere and G2 Esports, was 756.000.
One thing that can be said about these viewership statistics is that the number of average viewers was decent. It was still significantly lower than that of other big CS2 events, but at least it was competitive.

To put the numbers into perspective, here’s how the Copenhagen Major and IEM Katowice performed earlier this year.
The Copenhagen Major
- Airtime: 105 hours
- Hours watched: 58,2 million
- Average viewers: 552.000
- Peak viewers: 1,85 million
IEM Katowice
- Airtime: 85 hours
- Hours watched: 24,6 million
- Average viewers: 287.000
- Peak viewers: 972.000
As you can see, the viewership numbers of the Esports World Cup are comparable to those of IEM Katowice, which is considered to be one of the most prestigious events in CS2.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Esports World Cup, at least in its current format, is a relatively new thing. This means that it doesn’t yet have the prestige of other esports competitions, which have been around for a decade or more.
Another thing to keep in mind is that tournament organizers tend to learn from their mistakes. ESL is one of the most experienced companies in this space, so they will probably gather a lot of data about this edition of the Esports World Cup and come back stronger next year.
