Vici Gaming is one of the oldest esports organizations in Chinese Dota. Over the course of its history, this club has had some very impressive achievements.

Its Dota 2 team finished second at The International 2014, fourth at TI5, second at Dota 2 Asia Championships 2015, first at several Majors, and fifth-sixth at The International 2019 and 2021.

In 2022, Vici Gaming had a rough year and missed every single Dota Pro Circuit tournament. In the end, they were even relegated to Division II in the Chinese region. So, obviously, something needed to be done.

Vici Gaming’s Dota 2 roster

Vici Gaming had a very questionable roster in 2022. Throughout the team’s history, VG had always had lots of strong players with proven skills and a solid track record of tournament victories. But in 2022, they lowered their standards a little bit and brought in a few players that proved to be too weak for the region.

In China, Dota 2 is an important esport and there are lots of highly skilled teams and players. At the same time, only three or four spots are given to the region for every DPC event. This means that if you’re not a top four team, you will fail. And VG were not a top four team in 2022. In fact, they were barely a top 10 team.

Some of the players that used to compete for the team were Guo “Xm” Hongcheng and Pan “Frisk” Yi. Frisk was not a bad player, but Xm definitely lacked the experience and the skills to compete in the first division.

Another player who was signed by the team despite having no significant results was Li “b a b” Kongbo. He hasn’t been kicked yet, but it’s clear that Vici Gaming need a strong offlaner. Looking from the outside, it’s not obvious that he’s the right player. But if the remaining VG players think that he is, then he probably is better than we think.

The only two solid players on Vici Gaming’s roster are Yang “Erika” Shaohan and Zhou “Yang” Haiyang. Until the start of the new Dota Pro Circuit, VG will need to find two or even three more solid players who can assist them in resurrecting this team.

It won’t be easy to find them and it certainly won’t be easy to succeed. But fortunately for VG, the other Chinese teams are also in disarray after failing to finish in the top three at The International 11. This transfer window will determine the best Chinese Dota 2 teams of 2022. But who will Vici Gaming sign?
