VCT Masters Toronto 2025 has been crazy, and the match between PRX vs Wolves Esports is another mind-blowing moment. In the upper bracket final, these teams, well aware that the grand final was just one victory away, battled fiercely. However, ultimately it was Paper Rex that came out on top with the clean 2-0 sweep. They didn’t just win, but they proved again why they’re among the most feared teams in the world right now.
PRX vs Wolves Match Summary
It was quite the show from PRX. The entire match was an exhibit of how PRX was able to adapt and perform under pressure. Moreover, d4v41 in particular would show up multiple times with high-impact gameplay that continuously shifted the equilibrium in PRX’s favor.
Wolves Esports started the match hot with a disciplined showing of aggression and a coordinated utility use. But in the end, PRX’s unorthodox attempts allowed them to recalibrate their decision-making and secure a 2-0 victory. We took notice from this match that PRX had sights, clutches, and deadly aim, especially during key rounds, which kept Wolves at bay for the entirety of the match.
On the next map, Ascent, PRX showed total domination from start to finish. They got fiery and took control, never letting the Wolves fight back. They pressured them and took control of A-site with coordinated pushes and opened the game with the pistol round to a strong start. The Wolves did their best to fight back, with clutch plays keeping them hopeful throughout the match. However, PRX’s strategy and players were always too much for Wolves Esports to catch up.
Detailed Map Analysis
The initial map, Lotus, was an intense battle that started with Wolves taking a 7-5 advantage up to half time. The team played well with disciplined aggression and utility at the right times, like Yuicaw’s Killjoy lurks. However, PRX is well-known for their unorthodox play and teamwork. So when they made a second-half comeback, led by aim duels and multi-frags from d4v41 on Vyse, they actually sent the game into overtime and won the map 14-12.
It was a completely different story on Ascent, which was a total blowout by PRX from start to finish. And, it was a complete contrast to the battle we just witnessed on Lotus. After Wolves got all the way to the match and only a few points before a tie, PRX had more coordinated A-site pushes and tactical executions to overwhelm them with ease. Once PRX hit match point, Wolves got a couple of good plays from Spring and SiuFatBB to mount a comeback. But a push to close out B site sealed the map 13-8, again in favor of Paper Rex.
Ascent is certainly not one of PRX’s historically stronger maps. But in this game, they showed growth, maintained pressure, and mastered momentum from start to finish. With PRX finishing with another clean 2-0 victory, they will advance to the grand final. And it was definitely a great performance by both teams involved.
Road to Grand Finals
Paper Rex’s run in the 2025 Valorant Masters Toronto has gone really well. Considering the run that Paper Rex was on before this, and earlier victories against Sentinels and G2, Paper Rex should be riding high right now. And given the opportunity, would want to continue and secure the best and certain path to the Grand Final without needing to play one extra step.
This victory gives them some time to prepare for their next opponent, coming from the Lower Bracket Final. After their loss, Wolves Esports will have to play in the Lower Bracket Final against Fnatic, who beat G2 Esports, for the right to rematch Paper Rex.
Final Thoughts
The match with PRX and Wolves was a clash of two teams that are in it for all the glory and the desire to be the best team on the day. Wolves Esports was impressive looking for sure, but Paper Rex simply had too strong of a momentum and precision. Now the countdown begins, and Paper Rex has laid down the next challenge. There may be a lot of wondering if anyone can stop them before the final, so keep a close watch.
