VALORANT Champions Shanghai has delivered a devastating result for the host region. All four VCT China representatives have been eliminated before the playoffs after JD Gaming became the final Chinese team to fall, losing 1-2 against T1 on October 2.
The result completes a difficult tournament for TYLOO, Xi Lai Gaming, EDward Gaming and JD Gaming. Despite competing on home soil in Shanghai, none of the four teams survived the double-elimination group stage.
JD Gaming Fall in Final Chinese Elimination Match
JD Gaming entered the series against T1 as China’s last remaining hope.
Both teams were already facing elimination after losing their opening Group A matches. T1 had been swept 2-0 by 100 Thieves, while JD Gaming lost 0-2 against FUT Esports.
Their elimination series started closely on Lotus.
T1 selected the map but had to fight through a 6-6 first half before taking control after the break. JD Gaming stayed within reach, but T1 eventually closed the map 13-11.
The series then changed dramatically:
- T1 won Lotus 13-11
- JD Gaming dominated Abyss 13-3
- T1 closed Haven 13-5
- JD Gaming were eliminated 1-2 overall
JD Gaming’s victory on Abyss temporarily kept China alive and was one of the strongest individual map performances produced by a Chinese team during the tournament.
T1 Recover on Haven
After being dismantled on Abyss, T1 responded immediately on the deciding map.
The Pacific side changed its composition for Haven and established an 8-4 advantage during the opening half. JD Gaming struggled to recover after the side switch and quickly fell further behind.
T1 eventually closed Haven 13-5.
The defeat officially ended China’s participation at a Champions tournament being played in front of its own home crowd.
T1 now move into the Group A decider, where they will face FUT Esports on October 4 for a place in the playoffs.
EDward Gaming Also Exit on October 2
JD Gaming were not the only Chinese team eliminated that day.
Earlier, EDward Gaming faced Global Esports in the Group B elimination match and suffered a clear 0-2 defeat.
Global Esports won Summit 13-5 before taking Sunset 13-6, ending EDG’s campaign without requiring a third map.
| VCT China team | Elimination opponent | Series result |
|---|---|---|
| TYLOO | Team Liquid | 1-2 |
| Xi Lai Gaming | Nongshim RedForce | 0-2 |
| EDward Gaming | Global Esports | 0-2 |
| JD Gaming | T1 | 1-2 |
EDward Gaming’s exit is particularly notable because the organization remains one of the most internationally recognizable names from the Chinese VALORANT scene.
Their early elimination underlines how difficult Champions Shanghai has been for the entire region.
TYLOO and XLG Had Already Fallen
China entered October 2 with two teams already eliminated.
TYLOO became the first Chinese representative to leave the tournament after losing 1-2 to Team Liquid. They did at least secure a map, defeating Liquid 13-7 on Summit before losing the deciding Lotus 2-13.
Xi Lai Gaming followed shortly afterward.
XLG lost 0-2 against Nongshim RedForce, with both maps ending 13-11. The series was considerably closer than the scoreline suggests, but the result still sent another Chinese roster out of the event.
The four elimination paths were:
- TYLOO lost to Team Liquid
- Xi Lai Gaming lost to Nongshim RedForce
- EDward Gaming lost to Global Esports
- JD Gaming lost to T1
By the end of October 2, no VCT China team remained.
China Struggled From the Opening Round
The problems started immediately during the first series.
All four Chinese teams lost their opening matches 0-2. That meant every VCT China representative moved straight into an elimination match without a safety margin.
TYLOO lost to G2 Esports, EDward Gaming fell to LOUD, Xi Lai Gaming were beaten by Karmine Corp and JD Gaming lost to FUT Esports.
The region therefore spent the entire tournament fighting from the lower side of its groups.
China eventually improved slightly, with TYLOO taking a map from Team Liquid and JD Gaming crushing T1 on Abyss, but neither result was enough to save a series.
Home Advantage Never Materialized
Champions Shanghai represented a major opportunity for VCT China.
The tournament is being held entirely in Shanghai, with the group stage and early playoffs taking place at Jing’an Sports Center before the Finals Weekend moves to Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Chinese teams therefore entered the event with direct crowd support and familiar surroundings.
That advantage did not translate into results.
Instead, the playoffs will proceed without any home representative when the knockout stage begins on October 7.
Assessment
VCT China’s complete group-stage elimination is one of the biggest regional storylines of Champions Shanghai so far.
The most concerning aspect is not simply that all four teams were eliminated, but how early the problems began. Every Chinese representative lost its opening series, leaving the region under immediate pressure from the first round.
There were individual bright spots. TYLOO managed to take a map from Team Liquid, while JD Gaming produced a dominant 13-3 win over T1 on Abyss.
Those performances were not enough to translate into series victories.
Champions Shanghai will now continue without a Chinese team in the playoffs, turning the host crowd’s attention toward the remaining international contenders. For VCT China, the tournament ends as a major disappointment and provides another benchmark for how much progress the region still needs to make against the strongest teams from Americas, EMEA and Pacific.
