Dota 2’s The International 10 received the ‘Outstanding Esports Championship Coverage” award at the Sports Emmys. Particularly, the grand final match between Team Spirit and PSG.LGD received recognition for its esports coverage.

The 43rd Sports Emmys iteration included only one esports-related conferring category, which saw the 10th edition of the biggest Dota 2 tournament hosted by Valve overtake nominated League of Legends Worlds, Overwatch League finals, Ultimate Madden Bowl Finale and WePlay AniMajor.

The total shared prize pool at The International 10 was $40 million and the clash of Team Spirit and PSG.LGD was watched by 2.7 million viewers at its peak. This was a record for Dota 2 esports the event became the discipline’s most-watched competition to date.

Maintaining quality

Despite the fact that Dota 2’s overall popularity has been decreasing for some time, The International stays on top of the current esports production. As the biggest annual Dota 2 esports tournament, TI is an event highly anticipated by the whole esports community.

Thanks to its ever-growing massive prize pools, otherwise unseen in esports, as well as the participation of the world’s best Dota 2 teams, the event continues to grow and amass millions of concurrent viewers during its broadcasts. 

Furthermore, two out of five nominations for the ‘Outstanding Esports Championship Coverage” award featured Dota 2 competitions, suggesting that Dota 2 esports production remains of the top quality, at least at the international level.

After a recent wave of teasers, Valve has officially announced Singapore as the location for The International 11. The next edition of the event is set to kick-off for the first time in Southeast Asia in October 2022, with more information yet to be revealed.
