In order to prevent players from locking onto their agents, it appears that Cascade Picking will soon be introduced to VALORANT. It is supposed to help players to rotate more when choosing their champions. This new system has been met with mixed reactions from the community.

Many fans are not that excited about instalocking. Players who immediately pick an agent before a match can cause problems with their team, especially if they pick a certain agent without talking to their teammates about it beforehand. Many players have complained about that big problem time and time again. Meanwhile, the developers have noticed it as well. According to a recent leak from dataminer Rumblemike, Cascade Picking will soon be introduced to solve the problem.

What is Cascade Picking?

Cascade picking is already known from League of Legends. In VALORANT, it will be quite similar. As Jon Walker, a designer at VALORANT explained, with Cascade Picking, players will be able to pick an agent one by one. This way, players don’t rush to pick champions and instead take turns.

They will have about 20 seconds to do so. If they don’t decide, the next person in line has the opportunity to pick an agent. However, if you don’t make a decision during this time, you won’t be kicked out of the lobby – unlike League of Legends. But don’t worry, if you don’t pick an agent on your turn, you can choose one in the next rotation.

Community reacts critically to new system

The leak was received with mixed feelings. Although many people don’t exactly approve of instalocking, cascade picking as a solution approach wasn’t really well received either. Several players have said that they just want to play their favorite agent, and not be forced to play another. Players who can no longer play their main agent might even abandon the game altogether because of Cascade Picking.

There is no official release date, but it is assumed that this new system will probably not appear before the second or third act. The next patch will also introduce a mute list, which will allow you to block certain terms in chat. This should help players filter out words that they are involuntarily exposed to. This list is to find out which words are muted in which regions. This is to combat toxicity and provide a more enjoyable gaming experience for all players.
