Who Is Veto in VALORANT?

Veto was first revealed during the VCT Champions 2025 Finals in Paris on October 5, 2025. Unlike most Sentinels who focus on defense and traps, Veto offers something completely new—and his name says it all. His skill set is built around blocking projectiles, breaking traps, and controlling key areas, by destroying and disabling enemy abilities.

Now, this immediately makes him a powerful counter to utility-heavy teams. During this VALORANT meta dominated by these types of teams, players now have an agent who can handle most matches.

Veto officially releases on October 7, 2025, alongside the new Skirmish mode. According to Riot, he’s a “mutation experiment turned protector,” which fits perfectly with his role and his ability to dominate ability-focused fights.

C – Crosscut

Crosscut gives Veto some mobility, which is rare for a Sentinel. It lets him place a vortex marker within a specific range, where it can double as a teleport point. Just aiming at it can instantly teleport him back to it.

You can also move the marker during the buy phase to plan your escape routes or rotations. Use it to quickly reposition, set up ambushes, or escape safely.

Q – Chokehold

With Chokehold, Veto throws a slime fragment that turns into a trap when it hits the ground. When enemies step on the trap, they get deafened (can’t hear sounds) and decayed (temporarily lose health).

You can also combine it with your team’s grenades or molotovs to deal even more damage. It’s great for stopping enemy pushes or slowing them down during retakes. The trap can be destroyed, so try to place it in corners or hidden spots where enemies won’t easily notice it.

E – Interceptor (Signature Ability)

Interceptor is Veto’s main ability and his anti-utility “weapon”. It drops a small device called the Phage, which automatically destroys nearby enemy gadgets—like Raze’s Boom Bot, Gekko’s Wingman, Killjoy’s Turret, or Sage’s Wall.

The Phage only has 20 HP, so enemies can destroy it quickly if it’s out in the open. So, hide it behind cover or place it near choke points where enemies often use their abilities. This can help you stop site pushes or block post-plant setups with ease.

X – Evolution (Ultimate Ability)

Veto’s ultimate, Evolution, transforms him into a stronger, mutated form. While it’s active, he regenerates health, takes less damage, and becomes immune to all ability effects—like flashes, stuns, or suppressions. However, he can still be hurt by regular gunfire.

This ultimate works best when you’re leading a push, retaking a site, or defending the spike alone. You can also walk through your teammates’ abilities safely during Evolution, making it great for coordinated team plays.

Here are some more things to keep in mind when using Veto’s abilities:

  • Place your Crosscut teleport point early and practice your positioning before teleporting to it.
  • Keep your Interceptor out of sight and preferably in unexpected areas so it doesn’t get destroyed too quickly.
  • Use Chokehold traps where enemies can’t easily see them, like behind corners or smokes.
  • Save Evolution for clutch moments, and time it with attacks so you can use its deafen and decay effect to the maximum.
  • The best maps for Veto are those with tight choke points and narrow sites where he can control space easily, like Bind, Sunset, and Haven.
