VALORANT Patch 11.04 Update: Icebox Out, Abyss Returns

Riot is switching things up again in Patch 11.04, scheduled for August 19, 2025, with Act 5. Icebox is getting pulled from the map pool again and Abyss is getting pulled back in and will be available to all players. This new rotation will be in Competitive, Deathmatch, and Premier playlists and will involve new strategies for players at all levels.

New Map Pool Starting August 19

Riot’s 7-map system lets them mix things up while also working on maps like Icebox when they’re not in rotation. The upcoming map pool will be:

Icebox Suspended Yet Again

Icebox first appeared in 2020 and has been somewhat controversial since. It was returned earlier in the year with Patch 10.04, and now it is gone again. It has now tied Split for the most taken-out map in VALORANT history. Several players did not seem to enjoy the tight spaces and all of the verticality. While it will be taken out of non-VCT regular modes on August 19, it will still be on for VCT until Stage 2 is done. After that, it will be out again before the next Champions in 2025.

Abyss Comes Back to Ranked

Abyss is coming back after more than 130 days away. It wasn’t in pro-level tournaments before, but its bizarre mechanics and multi-layered design had made it proficiently useful for testing out new things. 

With Abyss coming back, teams likely will be reconsidering their agent lineups. Agents like Viper, Skye and Sova who help gather info and control space likely end up being more useful because they were more usable from how Abyss mechanically plays out.

Now that Abyss is part of the rotation again, things are going to shift. Ranked will probably feel different right away. There’s going to be new angles, lines of sight, and setups that players have to learn quickly. Grenade lineups, where to play after planting the spike, and which areas to control early on will be super important. For those willing to adapt fast, there’s a real opportunity to get ahead.
