VALORANT – Mertz swaps CS:GO for VALORANT

Daniel “mertz” Mertz has become the latest CS:GO pro to make the switch to VALORANT, with the Danish professional having ended his six-year association with the Valve game. Having most recently been inactive at Nordavind, the 23-year-old, which undoubtedly played a part in his decision to move to the Riot Games title.

With the CS:GO scene having been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, many pro’s have switched to VALORANT over the last 18 months. The reason for many was financial, while Mertz is also likely to be looking forward to testing himself in another area. Speaking on his decision via Twitter, mertz posted the following message, along with a highlight reel of his VALORANT skills: “After an awesome adventure on CS:GO, I want to reach new objectives in another environment. Proud to tell you that my next chapter will be written on VALORANT.”

How mertz made his name in CS:GO

It is not yet clear as to which VALORANT team mertz will play for. However, having impressed for the likes of North and Heroic during his CS:GO career, it is unlikely that the experienced Dane will have much trouble in this area. Mertz’s professional career dates back to 2015, when he competed under the banner of the Eastern Vikings.

From there, he joined the North Academy in April 2017, before being promoted to the organization’s main roster a year later. With the Danish org, mertz was part of the team that won the DreamHack Open Tours 2018. With North, mertz also won the Games Clash Masters 2018 and TOYOTA Master CS:GO Bangkok 2018, before finishing 3rd/4th at the DreamHack Open Winter 2018.

However, recent years have not gone so well, with mertz having played for the likes of the Copenhagen Flames, x6tence and most recently Nordavind. After failing to make any form of impression at recent top tier events, it perhaps comes as no surprise that mertz has made the decision to switch to VALORANT.

What’s next for mertz?

Despite announcing his departure from the CS:GO scene, he remains contracted to Nordavind, where he will remain until he finds a new team. We will bring further updates as and when we get them, with many teams potentially eyeing up a move for mertz. The Prodigy Agency, which managed mertz, also posted the following message on Twitter this week: “Today’s a big day for our prodigy @mertzCS. We are not only wishing you a very happy birthday but we’re also looking forward to your new adventure!”
