VALORANT Masters 2025: Paper Rex and Wolves Secure Upper Final Spots After Dominant 2-0 Wins

fragster Ahsan Kabir 17. June 2025

Paper Rex is now in the top three at VALORANT Masters Toronto after beating Sentinels 2-0 in upper bracket semifinals. It’s their biggest win in the event yet, and it also boosts their Championship Points quite a lot. This might even get them into VALORANT Champions later this year—but that still depends on how the bracket is shaping up. With Wolves Esports also heating up at the right time, nothing’s set in stone just yet.

Sentinels Falls for First Time as Paper Rex Move Forward

Things didn’t go as expected for the Sentinels, who entered the match with no losses so far. But that streak ended after Paper Rex—coming from the Pacific region—delivered a clear 2-0 sweep. This was only the second official meeting between them, and Paper Rex managed to flip the script after Sentinels had won all the previous showdowns, including off-season ones.

The opener was Split, and it was mostly a one-way map. Paper Rex started on defense and didn’t let Sentinels settle into any rhythm. Using their aggressive double-Duelist setup and great control across the board, they just kept winning every fight. By halftime, it was 10-2, and it didn’t take long after that. PRX won their map 13-3.

Sentinels showed more resistance on Sunset. They looked more solid, even grabbing the first pistol. A 7-5 lead going into the second half seemed promising, but PRX quickly leveled the game. After taking their own pistol and chaining a few together, the rounds became much tighter. Still, it came down to the final moments. PRX hit match point at 12-11, and in the last round, they defused the spike with just 1.3 seconds to spare. 13-11 is the final score.

Jinggg was the star this time, with his clutches being crucial, especially on Sunset. “We just had to stay confident,” said PRX’s PatMen after the win. “That’s what everyone kept saying.”

Wolves Esports Shocks the Bracket by Taking Out Gen.G

Earlier in the day, the first big upset happened when Wolves Esports from China beat tournament favorite Gen.G with a clean 2-0 scoreline. Most didn’t expect that, considering Gen.G’s dominance in the Pacific, but Wolves didn’t seem fazed at all.

Split was Wolves’ map pick, but it started rough. Gen.G shut down most of their attacks in the first half, only giving away three rounds. But Wolves came alive after that. Their defense looked a lot better, and they grabbed the pistol to kick off the comeback. Holding mid and anchoring the sites with confidence, Wolves flipped the map 13-11.

Lotus, which Wolves hadn’t played yet at Masters Toronto, turned out to be a pleasant surprise. They only took four rounds on defense, but their attack half was where things turned. They found gaps in Gen.G’s defense and used utility effectively to break through again and again. Gen.G had no proper answer. Wolves took it 13-9, ending the series.

The team’s coach, Fayde, made a big difference too. He called early timeouts that helped the team reset their tempo and get better reads. “He gave us exactly what we needed,” one player mentioned after.

PRX vs Wolves Set to Battle in Upper Final

So now, Paper Rex will meet Wolves Esports on June 20 in the Upper Bracket Final. Both are already guaranteed a top-three finish, but this match will decide who gets to the Grand Final first.

It’ll be an interesting one. “We used to scrim them all the time,” said d4v41 of PRX. “Whoever messes up less, that team will win.” Coach alecks added, “[Wolves] are like the main character of this tournament. They’ve got nothing to lose, and that makes them even more dangerous.”

This also marks PRX’s fifth international top-three finish, and their first since Champions 2023. But they are still chasing their first major trophy—and now they’re just one step away from that last match.

Sentinels and Gen.G Face Elimination in Lower Bracket

On the flip side, Sentinels and Gen.G will need to fight their way through the lower bracket now. Any loss from this point means elimination. Both teams play on June 17 in what’s expected to be extremely close matches.

  • 9 AM PST / 12 PM EST / 6 PM BST – Gen.G vs G2 Esports
  • 12 PM PST / 3 PM EST / 9 PM BST – Sentinevs Fnatic

Viewers can catch both series live on the official VALORANT YouTube and Twitch streams.

The landscape of Masters Toronto has now completely shifted. Sentinels and Gen.G—two of the strongest names going in—are now fighting for survival. Meanwhile, Paper Rex continues to grow in confidence, and Wolves have gone from underdog to serious title threat.

PRX looks sharp and prepared in every match, mixing aggression with discipline. Wolves, on the other hand, bring an unshakable calm and trust in each other, even when down.

There’s still plenty of VALORANT left to play, and the Grand Final spot is up for grabs. But one thing’s clear: things aren’t playing out how many predicted, and the road to the championship is more open than ever.
