VALORANT Masters 2023 Tokyo: Slots distribution

It was announced at the end of last year at the Riot Games One Pro VALORANT Invitational that the popular first-person shooter is coming to East Asia in 2023. Now, new information about the event has now been revealed.

So far, most VALORANT tournaments have taken place in Europe, primarily in Reykjavík and Berlin. However, having already hosted the first non-European tournament in Turkey, it’s now heading even further East. We’ve got everything you need to know about the VALORANT Masters 2023 Tokyo right here!

Two slots for China at Masters 2023 Tokyo

On December 24, 2022, Riot Games announced that the capital of Japan, Tokyo, will be the host of the second international event of VCT 2023. The message that Riot posted on Twitter yesterday explains how the slot distribution in Japan will look like.

A total of 12 teams will compete at the VALORANT Masters 2023 in Tokyo this summer.  Surprisingly, China got two slots, but in contrast, other big regions like Americas, EMEA and Pacific got three slots. Chinese teams made their international debut at VALORANT Champions 2022 with EDward Gaming last year. Two teams from the region have also participated in the ongoing VCT LOCK//IN tournament.

VALORANT is also very popular in Japan, where the regional tournaments attract thousands of viewers. At the live announcement, fans in the crowd were excited at the suggestion that an international tournament was coming to Tokyo.

The announcement said:

“The road to the Masters will be long and difficult. After the LOCK//IN tournament, teams will compete in the three international leagues: AMERICAS, PACIFIC, and EMEA. Three teams from two leagues will be able to qualify for the Masters in Tokyo. The team that wins the LOCK//IN tournament will bring their home league an extra slot for the Masters Tokyo and will field four teams.” 

LOCK//IN winner gets an extra slot for Tokyo

For now, though, teams are still busy competing in the VCT LOCK//IN tournament, and Riot has awarded another valuable prize besides the money. The winner of the tournament will get an additional slot for their region at the Masters 2023 Tokyo, which will take place between June 11 and 25.

The first two semi-finalists of the tournament have already been determined and the second phase started yesterday. The Masters is the second international event of the year and more information about the rest of the season will be announced in the coming months.
