Evil Geniuses has announced the signing of Kelden “Boostio” Pupello, with the American having been added to the organization’s VALORANT roster. The former OTW Esports pro stood-in for Evil Geniuses at the Nerd Street Gamers Summer Championship last month, an event where the team was eliminated at the semi-final stage by Cloud9 Blue.

Boostio is a former Overwatch player, with the 20-year-old having made his name with Skyfoxes. He then made the switch to VALORANT in May 2020, when signing for Triumph. His skills as a Jett player could well be invaluable to Evil Geniuses, who have struggled to find any form of consistency over recent months.

How Boostio made his mark in the VALORANT scene

After departing Triumph for Second Wind, Boostio secured a switch to Spacestation Gaming, where he competed during the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) Stage One and Two. While the org failed to qualify for a Challengers main event, Boostio did demonstrate his significant potential. Prior to competing for Evil Geniuses, Boostio trialed for Team Basilisk, having previously bounced around a handful of rosters.

In reaching the semi-finals of the Nerd Street Gamers Summer Championship, Boostio helped Evil Geniuses in recording wins over Pioneers and Built By Gamers. Despite ultimately being eliminated by Cloud9 Blue, Evil Geniuses has made the decision to acquire Boostio on a permanent basis.

Who will Boostio team up with at Evil Geniuses?

Evil Geniuses head coach Christine “potter” Chi talked up Boostio’s abilities during the org’s announcement video, describing him as a “confident player with a lot of energy and raw skill”. Meanwhile, Boostio has already talked up a potential rematch with Cloud9 Blue. Evil Geniuses posted the following message via Twitter in announcing the arrival of Boostio: “You asked. We listened. We play as one. Please welcome @Boostio to our VALORANT squad.”

Boostio will team up with Daniel “roca” Gustaferri, Brandon “BRANTED” Ballard, Mike “pho” Panza and Nolan “Temperature” Pepper at EG. Potter and assistant coach Jimmy “LiN” Lin remain in charge of getting the best out of such players. New teammate BRANTED was clearly impressed by the arrival of Boostio, albeit perhaps not for his gaming skills. BRANTED replied to Evil Geniuses’ post by writing: “god he’s so handsome.”

It has been a busy period for Evil Geniuses. We could well see additional roster changes in the coming weeks, with the org having taken on former smoke and beastcoast pro Jamal “jammyz” Bangash as a trialist.
