Uncharted 5: Naughty Dog Director’s Instagram Post Has Fans Convinced a New Game Is Coming

Ten years after Uncharted 4, the evidence is mounting – and this time it’s coming straight from inside the studio.

PlayStation’s PS5 Problem Sets the Stage

The PS5 generation will not go down as the strongest console era in history. A flood of remakes and remasters, repeated price increases, a failed live service push and a painfully thin exclusive lineup have left many players feeling shortchanged. Spider-Man 2, Returnal, Astro Bot – that’s largely the list. Several franchises once considered inseparable from the PlayStation brand have been conspicuously absent. None more so than Uncharted.

Naughty Dog itself has been primarily focused on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, its new IP, since wrapping up The Last of Us Part II and shelving the ill-fated Factions multiplayer project. That a second single-player game is in parallel development has been confirmed multiple times by studio head Neil Druckmann. The question is what it actually is.

Three Projects, One Very Suspicious Director

According to insider DanielRPK – who has previously leaked reliable details on multiple Naughty Dog projects – the studio currently has three solo projects running simultaneously. One of them is being directed by Shaun Escayg, the director of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, under the direct supervision of Neil Druckmann. That alone would raise eyebrows. Then came the Instagram post.

On February 17th, 2026, Escayg shared a photo from Trinidad and Tobago. The image showed a historical cannon at a Caribbean location. The caption was a single word: “Research.” That was all it took to send the Uncharted community into overdrive. A Naughty Dog director on a Caribbean research trip for a game he is reportedly directing – it is genuinely difficult to construct a scenario where that has nothing to do with Uncharted. Intergalactic is set in space. The Last of Us takes place in post-apocalyptic America. Neither requires fieldwork in the Caribbean.

Cassie, Chloe or Sully – Who Gets the Spotlight?

With the speculation machine running at full speed, fans are already building their wish lists. Do we play as Cassie Drake, Nathan’s daughter who appeared briefly in Uncharted 4’s epilogue? Does Chloe Frazer return as protagonist after The Lost Legacy proved how well that formula works? Or is this finally the long-requested Sully prequel? All three scenarios have vocal supporters, and the forums are already deep into debate.

What is clear: nothing is officially confirmed. PlayStation has made no statement on a potential Uncharted 5, and Escayg’s post could theoretically relate to something else entirely. But the combination of a known director, a confirmed parallel project and a Caribbean research trip makes it very hard to look past the obvious conclusion. If Naughty Dog is working on Uncharted 5, it would be the announcement PS5 owners have been waiting a decade for.
