Ubisoft introduced a new feature at the Six Invitational that will take action against spoofing, i.e. the use of mouse and keyboard on consoles. The so-called Mousetrap will punish the spoofers with the latency time.

Not all Rainbow Six Siege players play fair; pretty much everyone who has played the game for a long time knows that. Now, at the Six Invitational 2023, a few interesting features have been announced to create a fairer game.

Ubisoft takes action against spoofing

There are always people who use the mouse and keyboard on the console, and Ubisoft will punish them with increased latency from now on. Input spoofing devices allow gamers to play on the console using a mouse and keyboard. This method gives them a massive advantage in their matches, where opponents are mostly limited to handheld consoles.

Ubisoft has now found a solution to this problem that is not limited to banning players who use these devices. The developer explained that input spoofing devices are one of the biggest complaints they keep getting and wanted to do something about it so players don’t feel unfairly treated.

New Mousetrap feature

The new feature will be appropriately named Mousetrap and will help detect players using the mouse and keyboard on the console. In fact, Mousetrap has been running in the background for some time. Ubisoft secretly collected data to get information about which players are spoofing and when.

the results confirmed that some players use mouse and keyboard on consoles, giving themselves an advantage to climb the ranks faster. Of course, not all high-level players use a mouse and keyboard, but it’s still a significant number. That’s why Ubisoft decided to design and implement a new feature to take action against these people.

When is Mousetrap coming out?

Mousetrap will be released in the middle of season 8 year 1.2. If Ubisoft detects that you are using a mouse and keyboard on console and are trying to cheat, they will not simply ban you, they will add latency to the individual experience. The latency is still quite low at the beginning and does not have a major impact at first. But the longer you play, the more latency you get, and eventually you’ll start to notice that it affects the game.

How to undo the Mousetrap latency?

You can undo the penalty, i.e. the latency, by unplugging the spoofing adapter and continuing to play on the console as you should. The latency will then gradually decrease again over several games.

Are there exceptions?

Mousetrap has taken into account the devices used by disabled gamers. However, should problems arise, users can scan a QR code in the game. This will connect you directly to Ubisoft, who will then take care of the problem further.
