Two of three remote teams crash out of Six Major Charlotte

FURIA Esports and w7m Esports are headed home after failing to qualify for the knockout stages of the ongoing Six Major Charlotte. Both teams were forced to play with severe latency issues following a ruling by Ubisoft ahead of the last day of the group stage play.

After Ubisoft ruled that all teams must play on a LAN build, three of the Brazilian representatives at the Major — Team oNe, FURIA, and w7m — had to play their final day of matches via a VPN, as they were attending remotely from Mexico City. This meant that the teams were experiencing up 80ms of latency in crucial group stage matches.

FURIA fall to XSET

Entering the final day, FURIA and XSET were locked in a battle for second in Group B, with FURIA holding the tiebreaker. However, XSET went 2-0 on playday three, while FURIA were stomped 7-1 in a game against their Brazilian compatriot’s Team Liquid to go 1-1.

No comeback for w7m

The final day was more daunting for w7m, who began four points behind G2 in Group D. While they did pick up the win against G2 in the final match of the group, a loss to Heroic earlier in the day meant that the result for nothing more than pride.

Brazil in Charlotte

With FURIA and w7m gone, and Team oNe qualifying second in Group A, two Brazilian teams remain in the Major. While the region is considered a hotspot for Rainbow Six, it is the lowest number of Brazilian teams in the knockout stages since the Six Major Raleigh back in 2019.

Furthermore, Team oNe will have to contest the knockouts from Mexico City. Only time will tell how the arrangement will affect them, as they begin with a match against DarkZero Esports on May 20.

Team Liquid, who are playing on-site in Charlotte and remain one of the favourites for the event, will face G2 in their quarterfinal matchup.
