The esports community has frequently participated in charity activities and events. Karel “Twisten” Ašenbrener, a VALORANT member of Team Vitality, will be the most recent protagonist to participate in one of them.

The Czech will donate money for every kill made in competition with a particular weapon. At the same time, the whole world follows the competitive part of the VCT LOCK/IN to be held in Sao Paulo. The gesture is significant because it includes all competing teams and himself.

Charity event

Team Vitality is one of the 32 teams competing in the  VCT LOCK/IN, the first major competition of the year for Riot shooters. The French organization has a fantastic team, but a tweet from one of its members has thrust it into the media spotlight.

For every kill in competition with a Shorty, Karel “Twisten” Ašenbrener will donate €25 to various charitable causes, he announced on Twitter.

The Shorty is the least expensive weapon available in VALORANT and is one of five secondary weapons available (150 credits). While the Shorty is technically a pistol, it functions more like a shotgun because it can do much damage up close but is useless from a distance.

In VALORANT, the Shorty is not one of the most commonly used weapons. According to ValorBuff statistics, this sidearm barely contributed 0.5% of all kills in competitive VALORANT Radiant battles over the previous six months.

Because of its usefulness in long-range shooting, Radiant players prefer to play with VALORANT’s other side weapons:

  • Ghost
  • Sheriff
  • Classic
  • Frenzy

Since no one keeps track of weapon usage on a professional level, it is, unfortunately, impossible to know, for example, how many Shorty kills we had in professional VALORANT fights last year.

Since this gun is a rare weapon in the current meta, the player might have initially faced some criticism. However, it is essential to remember that the Czech is not obligated to donate this money, which is a thoughtful gesture.

Donation for each death made with the Shorty

The player has had to explain that he is referring to all kills made by all participants, not just his own. Given that this shotgun is the least expensive weapon in the entire game, seeing it once or twice would not be a drawback. It seems doubtful that professionals at this level of competition and with everything on the line would take a chance with this gun. A tool that misses its target could mean losing the crucial opening round.

The inaugural 2023 competition will be VCT/LOCK, featuring all 30 teams from the Americas, EMEA, and Pacific. In addition, two Chinese guest teams, EDward Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix ZHUQUE will also compete in the inaugural $500,000 tournament. The VCT/LOCK takes place in So Paulo from February 13 to March 4.
