Even though they didn’t win the Western European Qualifiers for The International 2024, Tundra Esports qualified for the event by finishing 2nd.

For the WEU region, this was a spectacular achievement because of the sheer number of strong teams that were in the race.

Tundra’s Results

Tundra’s path to TI13 was a bit easier than that of other teams but not by much. Their first match, against NAVI Junior, gave them an easy way to advance to the upper bracket semifinals. And because Team Secret defeated MOUZ, this second match was also much easier than it could have been because Puppey’s team was not in good shape.

In both of these matches, Tundra won 2 – 0. Their favorite heroes were Storm Spirit (they picked him three times in four games) and Dark Willow (again, three times in four games).

Tundra’s strategy seems to revolve around Topson and Pure~, which is perfectly logical. These two players are among the best in the world at their respective roles, so if they have a good game, they will carry the team to victory in most cases.

Another thing to keep in mind is that RAMZES joined the team in May. So Tundra had around one month to prepare for this qualifier. With players of the highest caliber, who used to win Majors and even The International, it’s much easier to be successful, especially if you also have a bit of luck.

In the upper bracket Final, Tundra finally met their nemesis. Entity defeated them 2 – 1, utilizing to perfection heroes like Morphling and Doom.

After dropping to the lower bracket, Tundra’s situation became much more complicated. But because they lost in the upper bracket Final, they were able to play directly in the lower bracket Final.

Their opponent was PSG Quest. This team was a bit too used to picking Weaver. They did it three times in this match and it didn’t quite work out as planned. Their strategy and tactics were too predictable and Topson knew exactly what he needed to do to come on top.

By picking Chaos Knight, Storm Spirit, and Sniper, Weaver’s advantage was removed from the start. His mobility and invisibility didn’t help at all against these heroes.

Thanks to winning this match, Tundra qualified for TI13 and will have the opportunity to compete against the world’s best Dota 2 teams in September.
