Several members of the South American Dota 2 team beastcoast have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of their match against PSG.LGD in the lower bracket of The Internationals 11.

The South American team faces a serious threat before their elimination game at TI11 as three of the players on the beastcoast tested positive for COVID-19. Following the South American team’s victory over Evil Geniuses in the previous round, one player reportedly complained of having a sore throat to beastcoast management. The team decided to swiftly test everyone for COVID as a result, and they found that numerous players of the team had indeed contracted the virus.

While Valve will give the team isolated rooms to compete in the next match, due to restrictions imposed by Valve, Beastcoast will be unable to play their upcoming series with any of their coaches present. The news is even more worrisome given that the South American team will play the Chinese juggernauts PSG.LGD in an elimination game on Sunday, October 23. The South American squad has so far put on an outstanding showing, easily defeating the Peruvian team Hokori in a best-of-one match before thrashing the North American heavyweight Evil Geniuses 2-0 in the main event’s lower bracket.

Can the underdogs withstand the formidable challenge?

At least three players of beastcoast tested positive during the past 24 hours, according to the organization’s official statement, which indicates that the current situation of the team is as dire as the one with Royal Never Give Up. RNG stood out for having a solid start to the competition, dominating the group stage with a 9-1 record. However, their performance faltered after several team members tested positive for COVID-19, and the Chinease side lost every game they had left to play in the group stage.

As some of its players were unable to perform at full potential due to severe coughs, fevers, and other symptoms, RNG succumbed against the European powerhouse Entity in the main event, which ultimately put an early stop to their campaign in the TI11. Beastcoast and RNG aren’t the only teams attempting to take control of the aegis amid challenging circumstances. When PSG.LGD revealed that several of its players had become ill with COVID a week earlier, it became the first COVID-related story to make headlines for the International 2022. On Day 3 of the group stage, the team was forced to play three series with heavy draught penalties due to the late reporting of a COVID occurrence.
