Soniqs has dropped its entire Dota 2 roster following a disappointing performance at The Internationals 11.

Dota 2’s biggest event, The International, always delivers exciting esports action on screen, but it also often results in shocking roster moves for teams that underperform. After beastcoast, SMG, and T1, now Soniq has taken a significant step after their disappointing performance in TI11. Just two months after their signing, the North American organization released its entire Dota 2 squad. Soniqs signed the former Quincy Crew stack before the Arlington Major, the team’s first Major of the year. Although the team maintained a steady performance throughout the entire NA Dota Pro Circuit online regional leagues, they failed to achieve the success the organization had anticipated in the Major.

The North American team was one of the first teams to be eliminated at the Major and was consequently forced to qualify for TI11 via the North American regional qualifiers. While the team qualified for TI11 by winning the regional qualifier, their performance there was terrible. As a result of losing a crucial game that resulted in a tiebreaker and ultimately the team’s elimination from the competition, they were unable to reap the benefits of their momentum in the group stage. Soniqs were ousted in the 17-18th position at TI11 by the Southeast Dota 2 titans BOOM Esports, who dealt them the death blow in the tie-breaker for the last playoff spot.

Quincy Crew may return, but likely not with the current lineup

Soniqs was the fourth organization in the previous four years to sign Quincy Crew and release them immediately after TI. The core of Quincy Crew had been sponsored in the past by Forward Gaming, Chaos Esports Club, and Newbee, with the roster changing throughout time. However, Soniqs dropping the roster could lead to the stack re-appearing in NA under the Quincy Crew moniker, with a completely different look than in the past. The director of Quincy Crew, Jack “KBBQ” Chen, revealed on Twitter that he is recruiting new team members for a “special project.”

The specifics of this project are still unknown, but considering Jack’s track record and the fact that Soniqs has just dropped the roster, this special project might herald the return of the original Quincy Crew lineup. KBBQ consistently contributed to Quincy Crew’s growth in the North American Dota 2 scene, assisting the squad to reach new heights of success. Following KBBQ’s declaration, it is more likely that the Soniqs roster will once again go by the name of the “Quincy Crew” while simultaneously undergoing a complete makeover.
