Team Yandex Eliminate LGD as TI 2026 Final Eight Are Confirmed

The International 2026 has its final eight teams.

Team Yandex claimed the last available playoff position on August 16 by defeating LGD Gaming 2-1 in the Elimination Round. The Eastern European roster recovered from losing the opening game to complete a reverse sweep and end LGD’s surprising run in Shanghai.

Yandex join TEAM VISION, Team Liquid, Nigma Galaxy, Team Falcons, BoomBoys, Team Spirit and Iron Wing in the Main Event. The remaining eight teams will now prepare for the playoffs at Shanghai’s Oriental Sports Center from August 20 to 23.

Team Yandex recover when elimination becomes real

Yandex entered The International as one of the stronger teams on paper but produced an inconsistent Swiss Stage.

Their only early victories came against HULIGANI and Team Resilience, while defeats against Liquid, Aurora Gaming and Iron Wing left them with a 2-3 record.

That made the elimination match against LGD unavoidable.

LGD won the opening game and moved within one map of reaching the top eight. Yandex responded under pressure and won the following two games to complete the 2-1 comeback.

The result means:

• Team Yandex advance to the TI 2026 playoffs
• LGD Gaming finish outside the top eight
• The entire Main Event field is now confirmed

Yandex saved their strongest response for the moment when another defeat would have ended their entire TI 2026 campaign.

Their reward is a guaranteed top-eight finish and another opportunity to compete for the Aegis.

LGD’s emergency roster run ends

LGD’s elimination closes one of the more unusual stories of this year’s tournament.

The organization entered TI with Topson as an emergency replacement after TaiLung was removed shortly before the tournament following a competitive integrity investigation.

Despite the disruption, LGD remained competitive throughout the Swiss Stage.

They opened with a 1-2 defeat against defending champions Falcons but recovered against Team Resilience. Later wins against Xtreme Gaming and Vici Gaming kept their tournament alive.

LGD ultimately fell one series short of the Main Event.

Given the circumstances surrounding their late roster change, reaching the final qualification match was still a competitive recovery. It was not enough, however, to extend their run at a TI being held on home soil in China.

Falcons keep their title defense alive

Team Falcons avoided a potentially disastrous early exit by sweeping Vici Gaming 2-0.

The defending TI champions had experienced an uneven Swiss Stage. They defeated LGD in their opening match but then lost consecutive series against TEAM VISION and Iron Wing.

Wins over GamerLegion and BoomBoys eventually gave Falcons an opportunity in the Elimination Round.

They took it.

The victory means Falcons can still become repeat TI champions, although their road has been far less dominant than during their previous title run.

The other successful Elimination Round teams were:

• BoomBoys, who swept Aurora Gaming
• Team Spirit, who beat Team Resilience 2-1
• Iron Wing, who eliminated GamerLegion 2-0

All three now join Falcons and Yandex in the final eight.

TEAM VISION remain the benchmark

While five teams had to survive elimination matches, TEAM VISION had already secured the cleanest route into the Main Event.

VISION finished the Swiss Stage 4-0 after beating Team Resilience, Falcons, BoomBoys and Team Spirit.

Their final group-stage series was especially convincing. VISION swept Spirit 2-0, with Satanic completing the match without a single death.

Team Liquid and Nigma Galaxy also qualified directly after finishing their own Swiss runs with four victories.

Those three organizations therefore avoided the Elimination Round entirely.

That extra recovery time could matter when the Main Event begins on August 20, although a multi-day break can also interrupt competitive momentum.

Five teams leave Shanghai before the arena stage

The Elimination Round produced five immediate exits.

Vici Gaming, Aurora Gaming, Team Resilience, GamerLegion and LGD Gaming all failed to win their final qualification series.

They join OG, Xtreme Gaming and HULIGANI among the teams eliminated before the Main Event.

The eight remaining organizations are now:

TEAM VISION, Team Liquid, Nigma Galaxy, Team Falcons, BoomBoys, Team Spirit, Iron Wing and Team Yandex.

The Main Event will take place at the Oriental Sports Center and run through August 23, when the 2026 Aegis of Champions will be decided.

Assessment

The Road to The International has produced a final eight that mixes expected title contenders with teams that were forced to recover from difficult starts.

TEAM VISION remain the clearest benchmark after their undefeated Swiss run. Liquid and Nigma also earned valuable direct qualification, while Falcons and Spirit had to take a much more dangerous route.

Yandex may be the most interesting case. Their Swiss Stage fell below expectations, but the reverse sweep against LGD showed they can respond when tournament survival is on the line.

The margin for error now becomes even smaller.

Eight teams remain, every series carries championship consequences, and the next stage takes place in front of the Shanghai crowd. The qualification race is finished. From August 20, the fight is entirely about the Aegis.
