The Witcher 3 Breaks Its Steam Record 11 Years Later

More than 11 years after its original launch, The Witcher 3 has reached a new all-time player record on Steam.

The release of The Witcher 3 Remastered sent concurrent player numbers to roughly 121,000, surpassing the game’s previous peak and once again proving just how unusually long Geralt’s final adventure has remained relevant.

For a primarily single-player RPG released in 2015, the milestone is remarkable.

CD Projekt RED responded by thanking both returning players and those experiencing The Witcher 3 for the first time.

Remastered Pushes The Witcher 3 to a New High

The Witcher 3 Remastered launched as a free upgrade for existing owners, giving millions of players an easy reason to return.

Steam activity surged almost immediately.

The new peak reached approximately 120,975 simultaneous players, putting the game above its previous record.

That number only represents Steam.

The Witcher 3 is also available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, but those platforms do not provide directly comparable public concurrent-player statistics.

This Is Not The Witcher 3’s First Late Comeback

The game’s longevity has already produced one unusual revival.

Around the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020, Netflix’s The Witcher series introduced a huge new audience to Geralt’s world.

Even though the television show adapted Andrzej Sapkowski’s books rather than CD Projekt RED’s game, interest spilled directly into The Witcher 3.

Steam activity climbed above 100,000 concurrent players years after the game’s original launch.

That was already an extraordinary achievement.

The Remastered release has now pushed the game even higher.

CD Projekt RED Thanks Players

The new milestone prompted an emotional response from the developers.

CD Projekt RED noted that more Witchers than ever were once again walking the Path and thanked fans for continuing to trust the series after so many years.

The studio also acknowledged the mix of veteran players returning for another run and newcomers starting Geralt’s journey for the first time.

That distinction matters.

The Witcher 3 is no longer surviving purely on nostalgia. Every major revival introduces the game to another generation of players.

A Strong Sign for the Future of The Witcher

The timing is useful for CD Projekt RED.

The company is already building the next era of The Witcher franchise, with future games set to move beyond Geralt’s original trilogy.

The Witcher 3 remains the series’ strongest bridge between the past and whatever comes next.

A new Steam record after 11 years demonstrates that the audience is still there.

Most single-player games reach their highest player numbers at launch and gradually decline from that point.

The Witcher 3 has repeatedly done the opposite.

Netflix created one major resurgence. Technical upgrades created another. The Remastered edition has now delivered the biggest Steam peak in the game’s history.

For a title released in 2015, nearly 121,000 people playing simultaneously on Steam in 2026 is not simply a successful remaster launch.

It is another reminder that The Witcher 3 has become one of the most durable single-player RPGs ever released.
