After failing to find a squad for the 2023 CDL league season, Ian “Crimsix” Porter—the most successful Call of Duty player in history—officially announced his retirement from competitive play.

The undisputed GOAT of competitive Call of Duty, Ian “Crimsix” Porter will no longer be competing in the Call of Duty League after failing to find a team for the Modern Warfare 2 season. Crimsix has been dealing with the possibility that he would not be able to get a starting position in the 2023 Call of Duty League season for the past few weeks. However, he finally took the painful decision to move on after realizing that there wouldn’t be a meaningful place for him in the CDL next season.

Crimsix uploaded a twelve-minute video to his YouTube channel in which he explained his retirement decision, which was influenced by his realization that he isn’t as young as he once was and that things are unavoidably changing. The veteran was finding it tough every day to compete alongside young players due to the generational gap he was trying to deal with. The 29-year-old will switch his focus to content creation and streaming. Furthermore, he announced that he would take part in Warzone 2 competitions while creating content related to his interests in shooting, track days, and sim racing.

The Crimsix’s era come to an end

Crimsix, a stalwart of the Call of Duty arena for years, is one of only three players—along with former teammates Damon “Karma” Barlow and James “Clayster” Eubanks—to have won three Championship rings. With Complexity and Evil Geniuses, Crimsix dominated Black Ops II and Ghosts, claiming his first world championship in 2014. Later in the same year, he joined OpTic, where he spent several years and won a number of events, including CWL Las Vegas Open 2019, CWL Pro League Stage 2, and the prestigious CWL Championship 2017. He eventually won his third world championship with the Dallas Empire in 2020 after defeating the fierce side of FaZe Atlanta 5-1 in the grand finals.

Crimsix, who has won 38 major event matches and accumulated over $1.3 million in prize money throughout his career, is retiring in the second spot in all-time CoD esports earnings. The GOAT last played for the New York Subliners during the 2022 Call of Duty League season. The team miraculously recovered from a disastrous start to its season and, qualified for CoD Champs. However, the New York Subliners collapsed against OpTic Texas in the second round of the CoD Champs 2022 elimination bracket, bringing a disappointing end to the 2022 Call of the Duty League season.
