Origins and Rebranding

Their history goes way back to late 2017. With ambition, GEN. G made efforts to acquire the roster of Samsung Galaxy, previously known as KSV eSports. This team served as the reigning League of Legends World Champion at that time. 

From that moment on, the organization determined their mission, to dominate the world’s esports scene. In May 2018, they renamed the KSV eSports team Generation Gaming.  

League of Legends Dominance

Among the many competitive gaming titles, the organization immediately left an impact on League of Legends. GEN. G performed consistently in South Korea’s ultra-competitive LCK through their top-tier roster. Since then, they have been regularly appearing in domestic playoffs and international events. 

On top of everything, their stellar run in 2022 led them to win their fourth consecutive domestic title. The first team in LCK history to achieve such a feat. They kept on soaring high as they completed the entire round-robin stage of LCK in 2024 without dropping a single game. 

Expanding Horizons

Their League of Legends success just marks the beginning of their dominance in the competitive scene. As soon as new gaming titles rose in popularity in the esports scene, the organization expanded their influence as well. From League of Legends, GEN. G entered the VALORANT scene of North America in May 2020. 

However, that did not last long before they decided to shift to the Asian market in late 2022. Moving up further in the league, they accepted VALORANT’s Pacific International League invitation to be the “VCT Partner Team”. Finally putting a seal on their status as a major key player in the FPS genre.

Their growth quickly reached the international scene. GEN. G leads the world’s esports market by owning and operating top teams in China, South Korea, and the United States.  

This gained significant recognition in the industry. In 2019, they were listed by Forbes as the 6th most valuable esports company globally.

GEN. G VALORANT team also left an historic mark in the league. Their exceptional skills brought them to the grand final of the international event, VCT Masters Madrid 2024, to be the first Korean team to do so.
