Week 28 of The Overwatch League is quickly approaching. The first matches start on August 14th, but the action takes place over a total of four days. In this article, I will present a brief summary of the league standings and give a few tips regarding what is likely to happen in the battles ahead.

The Overwatch League Current Standings

As you probably know, The Overwatch League is made up of 20 competitors. Right now, the matches take place online and that seems to heavily favor some of the teams. For instance, Shanghai Dragons, the team that broke all esports records a few seasons ago by getting an unprecedented losing streak, is now the leader of OWL with 26 wins and 2 losses. By contrast, some of the former giants, such as Vancouver Titans, are struggling to stay afloat.

In North America, the leaders are Philadelphia Fusion (23 W – 2 L), San Francisco Shock (22 W – 2 L), Paris Eternal (17 W – 6 L), and Florida Mayhem (15 W – 6 L). In Asia, Shanghai Dragons, Guangzhou Charge (18 W – 7 L), and New York Excelsior (15 W – 7 L) are leading the pack.

Week 28 Matches

Week 28 of The Overwatch League will have a total of 13 matches. Some of them are of little importance for the league, such as Vancouver Titans versus Dallas Fuel, while others can change the pecking order at the top of the standings table. The derby is no doubt going to be San Francisco Shock versus Philadelphia Fusion. I’ll take a closer look at it below.

Derby

San Francisco Shock has had a spectacular run this season. The team is currently on a seven win streak and has won 21 out of its last 22 matches. In addition to this, SFS is not exactly new to this level of performance, so it’s not that surprising to see them being so dominant in the league. In 2019, they won the OWL Playoffs, smashing Vancouver Titans in the Grand Final without losing a single map. As for their record against Philadelphia Fusion, SFS won its last two matches against them: one at the end of June (3 – 0) and one just several days ago (4 – 2).

As I mentioned before, Philadelphia Fusion is not exactly out of shape. In fact, it’s currently ranked 2nd in the league. But SFS seems to have their number. And this clearly suggests that PS will most likely lose this match.

Other Matches

Here are some of the other important matches and their favorites:

  • Atlanta Reign vs. Paris Eternal (favorite)
  • Florida Mayhem (favorite) vs. Los Angeles Valiant)
