The PlayStation 5 console is in high demand; the company’s updated figures show it was in high demand last Christmas. But, the same cannot be said of the titles that make up its catalog. So, beyond its quarterly results, the Japanese company wants to give joy to all PS5 users with a new update in the beta phase, which is already accessible in some countries.

Regions where the beta version of the new update can be tested

The regions supported by the PlayStation system update are the U.S., Canada, Japan, the U.K., Germany, and France. Users in those regions will receive an email detailing how to download the beta. Apparently, the full version of this new feature will be released sometime in the next few months, but the rest of the world is on hold, according to the official blog.

PS5 System Upgrade

Moving on to the details of the update, the voice chat with Discord is probably one of the most outstanding features included; moreover, one of the most requested by the community.

The voice chat with Discord is available in the beta with several platform features; one is the option to show what we are playing.

It is important to note that the user must link his PSN account to Discord.

On the other hand, the update includes other social elements, such as the possibility of initiating or requesting “Screen Sharing” with your friends. In addition, a new icon in the voice chat group to join games; and an addition in the video games tab that lets you know which specific title your friends are playing.

New visual enhancements and improved experience on PS5

Apart from the particularities of voice chat with Discord, it is also important to note that this system update implements smoother performance on HDMI 2.1 displays that support VRR at 1440p; as long as the user is playing a VRR-compatible title at 1440p. And if that were not enough, PlayStation is responsible for the 1440p resolution is compatible with a broader range of HDMI displays.

On the other hand, the user library is another aspect addressed in the update. It now considers preferences through filters and other options that ensure a better experience. In addition, it includes new features in the save files, with the possibility of moving games from PS4 to PS5 more easily and between PS5 consoles.

Finally, PlayStation adds new voice commands; for those who want to take screenshots and videos without lifting a finger. In this sense, it now includes the option to say phrases like “Hey PlayStation, capture this” or “Hey PlayStation, capture the last 5 minutes”. In this way, users can save some of their best moments in the game. Although, for the moment, this new feature is only available in English for US and UK users.
