Location of August Six Major set for Berlin

Rainbow Six Siege fans will be able to enjoy one of the most important R6 tournaments of the year... Radu M. | 21. June 2022

Rainbow Six Siege fans will be able to enjoy one of the most important R6 tournaments of the year in Germany’s capital, Berlin. The decision has just been announced by Ubisoft. It seems that the company caved in to the fans’ backlash and demands.

Back in February this year, Ubisoft had announced that it would hold the R6 August Major in the United Arab Emirates. This decision was not supported by the game’s community and now, four months later, Ubisoft has officially reversed it.

Dates, location, and tickets

Six Berlin Major 2022 is scheduled to take place between August 15 – 21 in Berlin’s Theater am Potsdamer Platz. R6 fans who live in Germany or want to travel to see the event will be able to purchase tickets for the playoffs stage, which takes place between August 19 – 21.

Every ticket is for a particular seat number and there are four price options available, ranging from €55 to €179.

Points, participants, and format

August Six Major features 16 teams and offers both money and circuit points as rewards. It is not yet known what the prize pool is going to be, but the teams will receive SI points based on their results:

  • 1st place: 375
  • 2nd place: 300
  • 3rd – 4th place: 230
  • 5th – 8th place: 165
  • 9th – 12th place: 105
  • 13th – 16th place: 50

The participants are not yet known. What we do know, however, is the competitions they will be selected from:

  • European League: four teams
  • North American League: four teams
  • Copa Elite Six: four teams
  • APAC League North: two teams
  • APAC League South: two teams

The competitive format of August Six Major consists of two stages: groups and playoffs.

For the group stage, the teams will be divided into four groups of four. Only two competitors per group advance to the playoffs. The playoffs stage will be played in the Single-Elimination format.

The qualification struggle

Right now, the teams are competing in stage 2 of their respective leagues. It’s a bit too early to make predictions because there are eight weeks of matches left to be played. However, we can safely assume that the top teams from stage 1 will likely continue to dominate.

In Europe, Heroic simply has no rival that can seriously threaten their position, while in North America, teams like Astralis and Oxygen Esports are expected to finish among the top four. Meanwhile, Asia-Pacific is dominated by Dire Wolves in the South and Team Liquid in the North.
