The International 11 group stage results

The group stage of The International 11 has finally ended and the results are very surprising. Our expectations were subverted once again.

Several teams that were not supposed to finish in the top four in their group secured upper bracket spots for the playoffs. While others, who were regarded as being very strong, will either start the main event in the lower bracket or got eliminated.

Group A

This group had an unlikely winner: Evil Geniuses. The NA squad led by Tal “Fly-“ Aizik finished with a record of 7 W – 0 D – 2 L. They were the only competitor that didn’t draw a single time at this tournament.

The remaining three upper bracket spots were won by Team Liquid (13-5), PSG.LGD (12-6), and OG (10-8).

Hokori, Royal Never Give Up, Gaimin Gladiators, and BOOM Esports will play in the lower bracket. Soniqs and BetBoom Team got eliminated.

RNG disappointed so far. They have extraordinary players who finished in the top three at The International several times. But despite that, they lost four of their matches. Hokori, on the other hand, impressed everyone and nearly secured an upper bracket spot. In the playoffs, they will compete against another SA team, beastcoast.

Group B

In group B of TI11, Team Spirit and Entity failed to get a top four result and mostly struggled against every opponent. Each of them won just one match out of the nine they played and disappointed with their performance.

In Spirit’s case, at least we can say that they got seven draws. So in a best-of-three, they might still prove capable of winning against most of their opponents. But it’s clear at this point that the Spirit from 2021 is gone. The potential of the players is still there, but they haven’t trained for this TI as hard as for the previous one.

One team that impressed everyone was Tundra Esports. They haven’t lost a single match and finished with a record of 5 W – 4 D – 0 L.

Another team that did really well was Thunder Awaken. Nobody expected the South American squad to be so strong, but they proved worthy of their direct invite. Their record was 2 W – 6 D – 1 L.

The two remaining top four teams were Team Secret and Team Aster. Both of them were expected to play well and they did.

The teams that got eliminated in this group were TSM and Talon Esports. Fnatic, Spirit, beastcoast, and Entity secured lower bracket spots.
