The International 11 has begun and the first day ended with a lot of surprising results. The best-of-two format provided lots of opportunities for teams to steal games even from the top competitors, and many of them succeeded. Out of the 25 matches that were played, 12 of them were draws.

Even more shocking is the fact that lots of strong teams either lost important matches or drew more times than expected. For example, PSG.LGD lost a match against Evil Geniuses and drew against Soniqs and even Hokori.

It seems that the initial evaluation of the teams and their strength has proven to be incorrect. For some reason, the entire community assumed that the Chinese and Western European teams would outshine everyone else. But that assessment was invalidated by the matches that took place on day one of The International 2022.

Strongest teams

So far, the strongest teams have been Evil Geniuses, Royal Never Give Up, OG, Team Liquid, Team Aster, Team Spirit, and Team Secret. All of these teams managed to win at least two thirds of their games, which is quite impressive.

In some cases, such as EG’s, they did even better. So far, Tal “Fly” Aizik’s team is the only one that won six out of six games. And they did it despite the fact that they had really tough opponents such as OG and PSG.LGD.

Right now, it’s hard to predict who would stand a chance against EG’s playstyle. Their understanding of the current meta is way above everyone else’s and with their day one results, their spot in the upper bracket is almost guaranteed. EG would have to lose numerous matches in the coming days to fail that objective.

Weakest teams

The weakest teams so far have been BetBoom Team, Boom Esports, Fnatic, and beastcoast. Several more had a low win rate, but at least they looked a bit more decent during the games.

If the current trend continues on day two, BetBoom are guaranteed to exit the tournament at the end of the group stage.

Expectations for the next few days

The second day of the tournament features a lot of great matches. On day one, 25 of them were played. The same will happen on day two. The most exciting battles to watch will be these:

  • LGD vs. OG
  • Team Spirit vs. TSM
  • Evil Geniuses vs. Team Liquid

If you have time, make sure you watch these battles because they will be quite epic.
