The biggest gaming event of the year, The Game Award 2022, has concluded, bestowing numerous honors on deserving winners and releasing a load of new trailers for fans. It’s been a little quiet in terms of releases and announcements, but the future looks promising. The Game Awards 2022 featured a lot of announcements, previews, and memorable moments, and we’ve compiled them all here so you won’t miss a thing. Take a look at everything the 2022 Game Awards had to offer.

Elden Ring wins Game of the Year

With 10 nominations, God of War Ragnarök led The Game Awards 2022, followed by FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, which was nominated for seven. Nevertheless, Elden Ring, a fantasy MMORPG epic by From Software, was the star of the night, and it now officially holds the title of 2022’s Game of the Year.

Without a doubt, Elden Ring was one of the biggest and most amazing video games of 2022, surprising both players and critics with its flawless open world, combat systems, art direction, and other aspects. Elden Ring developers vaguely hinted during the presentation that they have more to do with the game, suggesting that additional content may be coming soon.

The biggest announcements at The Game Awards

The event’s attendees were aware of what to anticipate, including information about Tekken 8, Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion, and a performance by the band Hozier, whose song appears in God of War Ragnarök. While there were numerous exclusive game announcements, some of the trailers stood out above the others thanks to their inventive musical choices, eye-catching visuals, and stunning cast revelations. Here are seven of the biggest announcement made at the event:

  1. Cyberpunk 2077 (Phantom Liberty expansion)
  2. Dune: Awakening (new look)
  3. Diablo IV release date
  4. Hades II (new look and release date)
  5. Street Fighter 6 (release date and new character)
  6. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (new trailer)
  7. Tekken 8 (Trailer)

A stage invader interrupted the event and got arrested

The community was accurate in predicting the winners and nominees for The Game Awards 2022, but they were not prepared for an unexpected invasion. A stage invader who appeared to be paying homage to former U.S. president Bill Clinton interrupted
FromSoftware and Hidetaka Miyazaki when the team behind Elden Ring was receiving the Game of the Year award.

At first, it wasn’t entirely clear if Geoff Keighley had planned this peculiar part of the ceremony, but it soon became clear that it was a stage invasion. Geoff Keighley, the show’s creator, and host tweeted after the incident that the individual who interrupted the nomination at The Game Awards 2022 had been arrested.

Ludwig wins the content creator of the year award

Ludwig Anders Ahgren took home the award for content creator of the year at The Game Awards. Even though Ludwig was nominated alongside QTCinderella, Karl Jacobs, Nibellion, and Nobru, it wasn’t difficult to choose a winner given how well Ludwig did in 2022. Only 10% of the total votes were impacted by the community, and the jury declared Ludwig as the winner of the category. Ludwig recently won the best Variety Streamer award and the best Content Creator of the Year award at the 12th Streamy Awards.

Valorant wins best Esports game award

Surpassing other competitive games like League of Legends, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, DOTA 2, and Rocket League, Valorant won The Game Awards 2022 best esports game award. When deciding who should receive the prize, esports events, community support, content updates, and other aspects were taken into account by the jury. It is no surprise that Valorant won the title given that VCT has grown to be one of the most prominent events globally.

The second VCT edition, which offered a whopping $1,000,000 prize pool, quickly became one of the most popular international Esports competitions. Through its Game Changers circuit, Valorant esports also works to assist and create opportunities for women and other underrepresented genders. Jacob “yay” Whiteaker of Cloud9, won the Esports PC Player of the Year award over top CS:GO and League of Legends veterans, cementing Valorant’s supremacy even more.
