Teamfight Tactics (TFT) Crown of Champions COMPLETE Guide

Summary:

  • In TFT, there’s an OP item, the Crown of Champions, that does a tremendous amount of true damage with basic attacks.
  • The more gold you are holding on to, the more damage the item will do.
  • If the champion replaces their basic attack with a spell, it will not trigger the true damage from the Crown.
  • The Crown of Champions isn’t obtainable through the normal means, like carousels or drops.

Within that pool of mechanics and items in TFT, one rises above the fray: the Crown of Champions. This game-changing item doesn’t just offer some stat buff like every other item. It is a crown that can change your opponent’s thought process and suddenly take a losing fight into a dramatic win. You might even think it’s too good to be true because of its effect. But, well, that’s just exactly how the Crown of Champions works. Are you ready to crown yourself? Then, let’s get into it!

What is the Crown of Champions in TFT?

The Crown of Champions is unlike a lot of other normal items that just grant you a stat boost or simple effect. Every 4 seconds, the next basic attack the wearer performs will deal true damage equal to 9001 times the amount of gold you have in your bank. Because it is true damage, it will deal the damage, disregarding any form of resistance on the target. That’s why it’s incredibly powerful in fights.

But, it works differently for champions that fully replace their basic attacks. It is just another example of its unique interaction with champion mechanics. In addition, this isn’t your usual carousel or randomly dropped item but rather one that is typically linked to specific events or game modes. So, that makes it a rare and sought-after item. Ultimately, a champion can remove it off a champion by benching them.

How to Obtain the Crown of Champions

The Crown of Champions is unique in that it’s available through a unique way to get it. It’s only available with a composition that uses champions with the Shimmerscale trait. You can not obtain the Crown of Champions without having a team made up of Shimmerscale. Once you have the Shimmerscale trait with a sufficient number of champions on the board, the Crown of Champions will show up as an item that you can equip to your units.

Getting the Crown of Champions in TFT isn’t as easy as picking up common drops or items from carousels. Ultimately, it boils down to the thought process behind the Shimmerscale trait and team composition. You need to instead ensure that you are prioritising and building a team that is focused on Shimmerscale traits and champions to access the Crown of Champions.

How to Use the Crown of Champions

To get the most out of the item, you want to carefully select champions that can attack often and live long enough to interact with the Crown’s cooldown. This means you want a strong carry or high attack speed/survivability champion that can trigger the Crown’s empowered attacks. Ultimately, you would be able to tilt the fight in your favor. But don’t give it to champions like Swain. His ability replaces his auto-attack and ignores the true damage from the Crown.

Ultimately, if you have the Crown of Champions, then managing your gold is also just as important. Because the amount of damage it does scales off your stored gold. The more gold you have in the bank, the better it is for the item. Therefore, you need to be careful to balance upgrading champions and saving your gold for the Crown’s damage multiplier.

So if you’re trying some new builds, learning the nuances of the Crown will be one of the key skills in your TFT arsenal.
