Construction ahead, everyone! This is a quick guide for beginners of the TFT 14.8 patch notes.

The popular spinoff of League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, received major improvements from Riot Games. The 14.8 patch of the auto-battler game seeks to balance the meta and adjust some of the game mechanics. Besides, it will also introduce new content for the player’s delight. With that, here are the patch notes for 14.8 and how it will affect your gameplay.

System Changes

Player Damage Simplification

It simplifies the process of the calculation of the players damage. No matter how many enemy units there are, each survivor now can deal 1 damage. They also adjusted the base stage damage to compensate with this adjustment.

Streak Rewards

Winning or losing 2 rounds in a row will grant the player 1 gold. This is to reward the consistency of the player and provide a slight boost to their economy. This will also encourage more active play in the early game.

Shop Roll Odds

The 14.8 patch tweaked the Level 7 shop odds. It slightly increased the chances for the units in Tier 1 with 20% and Tier 2 with 33%. However, they also decreased the chances for Tier 3 units to 36%. Meanwhile, the remaining tier units keep their previous chances.

Trait Changes

The gameplay balance is crucial for players to enjoy and love the game more. That’s why here are some traits adjusted to provide better experience.

Exalted

  • Base damage increased from 4% to 5%.
  • Damage bonus per level increased from 1/2.5% to 1/3%.

They packed the Exalted comps with more punch, especially during the late games. They are expecting more players to commit to Exalted builds in their game.

Fortune

  • Healing decreased at 5 Fortunes from initially 3 HP to 2 HP per round.

Although Fortune remains powerful, it will be slightly riskier to play in the meta. Players must carefully manage their health if using a Fortune strategy. The reduced healing makes it harder to recover once the player went on a losing streak.

Dragonlord

  • Reduced true damage slightly at higher levels from 12/18% to 10/15% at 4/5 Dragonlords

Dragonlord comps are no longer overwhelming in the late game in the adjustment. This is to encourage other late-game strategies and prevent the dominance of Dragonlord in the meta.

Heavenly

  • Slightly lowered maximum bonus stats from 240% to 225% at 7 Heavenly

It left Heavenly Comps slightly more balanced with the other high-end strategies. This is to prevent Heavenly from being an auto-win condition once it reaches the highest tier.

Champion Changes

Tier 4 Champions

All Tier 4 champions received buffs in the 14.8 patch:

  • All Tier 4 units received a health increase of 100-250 to be stable and competitive over the 3-star lower-cost units.

This makes the Tier 4 units an ideal main carrier. With high survivability, they have more time to cast their abilities. This adjustment expects to see players transition into 4-cost carry compositions in their mid-to-late game. It will also lessen the dependence on 3-star 3-cost units.

More notable changes to other champions:

  • Ashe: Faster casting by adjusting mana costs from 25/100 to 30/90.
  • Lee Sin: Adjustments in health from 950 to 1200, and AD from 70 to 75
  • Lillia: Buffed ability damage and increased health from 700 to 900

These champions shine as reliable carries in the 14.8 patch. With Ashe, she’ll be able to cast her ability more frequently. On the other hand, expect tankier and harder hits from Lee Sin. Lilia will be more durable while dealing extra damage. Building comps around these buffed champions will help you earn victories.

Other Notable Champion Changes

  • Yone (Tier 3): Slightly reduced attack speed from 0.9 to 0.85
  • Alune (Tier 3): Increased ability damage
  • Gnar (Tier 2): Faster to reach maximum bonus AD as max stacks reduced from 50 to 25 though AD per stack doubled.
  • Irelia (Tier 5): Targeting focused on closer enemies.

The 14.8 patch will have a slightly less dominant Yone to encourage the use of other 3-cost carry options. Instead, using Alune will be more useful in the meta. Also, Gnar became stronger and faster, which makes him a solid early-game unit. Although bad news for Irelia users, the change makes her attack more predictable and slightly less effective to snipe backline carries.

Item Changes

Titan’s Resolve

  • Reduced AP per stack from 2 to 1

This nerfed the Bloodthirster + Titan’s Resolve item combination that is popular among TFT players. This makes it less effective for AP-scaling champions such as Volibear or Yone. Alternative items like Sterak’s Gage or Crownguard for melee carries will work better.

Giant Slayer

  • Increased health threshold from 1600 to 1750

Its effectiveness against high-health targets remains without overpowering other items due to the general health increases. A solid choice if going against tank-heavy comps.

Augment Updates

  • Everything Must Go! Disabled due to balance concerns
  • Fine Vintage: Now it takes 4 turns to transform items instead of 3.
  • Various other augments received minor adjustments.

Bid goodbye to the high-risk, high-reward strategy that would have dominated the lobby as 14.8 eliminates “Everything Must Go!”. Meanwhile, the “Fine Vintage” is riskier to use with the changes. Remember to read augment descriptions carefully, as small changes made can impact your strategy.
