Team Vitality crowned champions of RLCS 2022-23 Spring Open

After three days of intense battles in the RLCS 2022-23 Spring Open online tournament, Team Vitality, after a long wait, were crowned champions by defeating Team Liquid in the Grand Final by 4-3.

It was an intense Grand Final match between these two great European Rocket League teams. However, this champions trophy is more than deserved thanks to Team Vitality’s excellent performance throughout the tournament. On the other hand, Liquid also had great play in the tournament, and their only two losses were to the champions.

Thanks to the victory and the 24 RLCS Points, Team Vitality takes home $30,000 in prize money. On the other hand, Vitality is currently at the top of the Spring Ranking table with 28 points, four points ahead of Team Liquid. However, in the overall leaderboard for the European region of this 2023 season, KCorp is still in first place with 161 points.

Team Vitality’s way to the Spring Open Grand Final

Team Vitality started the Spring Open with some doubts, as their first match against Quadrant was much more complicated than they imagined. However, they managed to pull out a 3-2 victory. From then on, things got a little easier for the team, as they beat G1 3-1 and pulled off the first surprise by beating Karmine Corp in the Upper Bracket semifinals 4-1.

Finally, in the Upper Bracket final, Team Vitality bounced back after losing games 2 and 3 to get a flawless victory over Team Liquid by 4-2 and secure their pass to the Grand Final.

Team Liquid’s road to the Spring Open Grand Final

Team Liquid had a slightly more complicated passage in this tournament, mainly because they dropped to the Lower Bracket after losing in the UB final to Vitality. However, the rest of the matches were somewhat comfortable wins for them.

Their first match was against THM, and they got a very comfortable 3-1 win. Then, they struggled a bit more to beat SUH by 3-2. After that, however, they had to do a spectacular reverse sweep in the Upper Bracket semifinals to beat Moist Esports 4-3.

After falling to the Lower Bracket after losing to Team Vitality, the guys from Team Liquid crushed Team BDS by 4-0, who had eliminated KCorp in the LB semifinals.

Team Vitality vs. Team Liquid – Grand Final Recap

The Grand Final between Team Vitality and Team Liquid was exciting, as both teams left everything in each match to take the victory.

It all started with a narrow 2-1 victory for Team Vitality in Mannfield. However, this only made Team Liquid react and beat them 4-0 in the second match at Forbidden Temple.

With the series level at 1-1, Team Vitality went on to a 3-2 win at DFH Stadium, which gave them great confidence going into the rest of the series. But, just as they did after the first game, Team Liquid responded and struck twice as they won 2-0 at Utopia Coliseum and 3-2 at Overtime in Deadeye Canyon.

When everything seemed to indicate that Team Liquid would be proclaimed tournament champion, the guys from Team Vitality had an ace up their sleeve and won at Neo Tokyo by 1-0 and Champions Field by 2-1. As a result, Team Vitality returns to the top of the European Rocket League scene.
