Team Secret Dota 2 Rebuilds, Puppey Only Player Left

Hush now. Only the roster is out for Dota 2’s Team Secret.

Team Secret may look a bit different in the upcoming days. The team makes changes as they have parted ways with some of their core players. The roster overhaul left Clement “Puppey” Ivanov, the squad’s legendary captain, alone in the rebuilding of their core.

With a new chapter to open, Team Secret Dota 2 has plenty of things to work on. 

The Downfall of a Giant

Their dominance left an impact on the Dota 2 competitive scene. More than a competing team for Dota 2. They managed to grow and become one of the most prestigious organizations in the eSports community. 

However, things have been unfortunate for the team since 2022. The team’s performance fell short in The International (TI) 2022, as they finished in second place. 

It has been tough for the team since midlaner Michal “Nisha” Jankowski transferred to Team Liquid. It definitely left a void in the squad’s roster due to his irreplaceable skills and talent. 

An even tougher path welcomes Team Secret as challenges block their reclamation of former glory. Throughout 2023, they faced difficulties in getting wins and earning points. With this, the team was relegated for the first time to Division 2 of the Winter Tour regional league. 

The road remains shaky all throughout the year as they bounce between Division I and Division II. The cries for redemption hushed when Team Secret failed to secure a qualifying spot for TI 2023. It is far from the impressive performances in the earlier years of professional gaming.

This breaks the historic streak of Puppey from competing in every TI since the inception of Dota 2 esports. Indeed, it was a disappointing year for the team after failing to come back in their full glory.

Roster Shuffle: A Sign of Desperation?

Team Secret builds a legacy of their own in the Dota 2 competitive scene. That’s why giving up now is barely an option for the team. The changes came quickly for Team Secret as they searched for the missing piece to their A-game. 

Several roster changes have gone by. After unveiling the season 2024 lineup, the team replaced two of its players in just two months. Kordan and Ekki joined the new lineup in place of MidOne and yamich. 

The changes went on at high speed with the shocking announcement. Three of Team Secret’s core players bid their farewell to the team. Miroslav “BOOM” Bičan, Remco “Crystallis” Arets, and Teng “Kordan” Tjin Yao left in a span of three weeks. 

Puppey, the last man standing, was left with the task of reassembling his team.

“Things will change. I want to win,” the captain, Puppey, hinted in Team Secret’s social media update. The unwavering determination sets him up to pick up the team from its pieces as they reorganize their roster.

Expectations heighten for Puppey and the new faces of Team Secret as the competition season approaches. The roster overhaul made fans anticipate the level of gaming they will show in the future. Therewith, PGL Wallachia S2 closed qualifications on August 14, 2024, and will be first in line of business for Team Secret. 

Speculation and Possibilities

The roster changes made the community buzz with speculation about potential newcomers to Team Secret. Artour “Arteezy” Babaev emerged at the top of the list of names among the rumored recruits. His stellar performance as a midlaner and hardcarry made him a standout among the bunch. His timely return to the Dota 2 competitive scene after his hiatus raises suspicions about his inclusion. 

Although the organization has not confirmed anything yet, the fans are anticipating big additions to the team. With almost all of the positions up for grabs, Puppey will have thousands of possible combinations that fit his vision.

Team Secret may not be the team that was known before with the departure of their core players like BOOM, Crystallis, and Kordan.
