Team Liquid had given the green light for its entire Apex Legends team to find a new home. Still, in the last few hours, the organization has surprised us with an announcement explaining why it has decided to move away from the competitive scene.

Official statement from Team Liquid

In the statement published on their website and their official social media, Team Liquid has revealed some of the problems they have had with the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) and the organizers of the series.

Liquid states, on several occasions, that they were delighted within the Apex Legends competitive scene and believed in Apex itself. But the organization has decided to leave because of the lack of support the teams have for the ALGS and the organizers.

Part of Team Liquid’s statement:

“On the financial side of things, the ALGS and how it is moving forward with monetization for teams simply doesn’t fit with our operations, and so we need to take our leave.”

Liquid also states that they are not ultimately saying goodbye to Apex Legends. Content creators Acie and Rogue will remain part of the team and be the organization’s ambassadors within Apex.

Team Liquid claims its departure is the fault of ALGS

Team Liquid CEO Steve Arhancent directly addressed the ALGS and the organizers with a personal statement in which he notes:

“Team Liquid strives to only participate in games where the developers support the teams, so that the teams can support their players.”

Similarly, Arhancent does not rule out that Team Liquid may return to the Apex Legends competitive scene at some point, firmly attributing the reason for Liquid’s departure to a lack of support from the ALGS.

The organization was comfortable in this esports

Since the organization announced that it would venture into the competitive scene of Apex Legends with outstanding players, investing heavily in this video game since they created up to two different teams. Everything seemed to indicate that Team Liquid would be one of the pioneers of this esports.

But, no one counted on the stoppage that this game had immediately after its launch due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which paralyzed all the ALGS and Team Liquid’s plans.

Likewise, Teal Liquid continued to compete by fielding both teams alongside organizations such as TSM and NRG.

In 2022, Team Liquid’s consistency was rewarded after, with a phenomenal roster, finishing in second place in Split 2 and #12 in the ALGS World Championship.

Does Team Liquid’s exit affect the scene?

The departure of Team Liquid could call into question the participation of other organizations in the ALGS.

At this time, with the economic crisis that the world is experiencing, esports teams are suffering budget cuts, and what is most abundant at this time are casualties and layoffs.

Now, the departure of Team Liquid could mean a very radical change in esports, which in 2022 has shown phenomenal growth.
