Today is a really sad day for fans of Valve’s shooter, as one of the legends of Counter-Strike has announced that he is hanging up his mouse and keyboard from the competitive scene. We are talking about the game’s legend, Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas, who announced on his Twitter account that he is retiring from competitive CS:GO.

Farewells will always be sad, no matter who it is, but that a legend of the game retires will always make the community sentimental. But, for all of us old-schoolers who grew up admiring TaZ’s talent since Counter-Strike 1.6, we are proud to have learned something during his long career in the CS scene.

TaZ announces his retirement from the CS:GO scene

The 36-year-old Polish veteran player Wiktor “TaZ” Wojtas announced his retirement for good from the CS:GO scene via a message on his Twitter account.

As we see in the image posted by the legendary CS player, the t-shirt has a message that reads, “That’s all Folks!” furthermore, his message was clear and precise “I retire ♥️ see You around.”

While it is true that we still have many legends of the game actively playing in different teams, very few of them have managed to have the success that TaZ has achieved throughout his career.

About TaZ

TaZ’s beginnings in the Counter-Strike 1.6 competitive scene date back to 2001, when he played under the banner of a Polish team called SpHeRe. Then, as the years went by and as it was very common back then, the player was part of many other esports organizations, most of them Polish.

When the CS 1.6 scene ended, TaZ was playing under the banner of the German organization ESC Gaming, the same one that he made the jump to CS:GO at the time of the game’s launch.

In CS:GO, the trend of TaZ switching teams continued, but his most notable success was when he played for Virtus.pro from 2014 to 2018, where he won many major trophies, most notably the ESL Major Series One Katowice 2014, the only Major he won in his career.

In his CS 1.6 stage, TaZ was part of a Polish team called Golden Five, which stood up to Fnatic and Ninjas in Pyjamas, who dominated the global scene in those years.

A well-deserved break for TaZ

At 36, TaZ announces leaving the CS:GO competitive scene. This announcement comes after HONORIS, the organization he created and Filip “NEO” Kubski, announced its definitive closure. According to the official statement, the organization lacked the financial resources to stay afloat. In addition, TaZ and NEO had to pay for many of the team’s expenses out of their own pockets.

There is no doubt that TaZ will always be a legend in the Counter-Strike scene. Moreover, we can say that he was the pioneer of both CS 1.6 and CS:GO titles, and now with the arrival of CS2, the player has said goodbye.

While TaZ may remain attached to the scene in the future, he will most likely take a break and spend time with his family and friends.
