T1 extends contracts with Zeus and Oner

T1, one of the top League of Legends teams in the world, has renewed its contracts with Choi “Zeus”... Shubh | 16. June 2022

T1, one of the top League of Legends teams in the world, has renewed its contracts with Choi “Zeus” Woo-je and Moon “Oner” Hyeon-Jun. While Zeus has agreed to a new contract that will keep him with the team until 2023, Oner will stay until 2024 — one more season than originally intended.

T1’s firepower and backbone, Zeus, will remain on the active league roster for at least another year, according to the organization’s announcement posted on June 14. This news comes after T1 support player Ryu “Keria” Min- seok’s contract was extended in April.

Two days later, the organization followed with another contract extension announcement, this time for Oner, leaving Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok the only T1 player without having their contract renewed.

T1’s performance with Zeus

Since his arrival, Zeus, Korea’s sensation player, had a significant impact on T1. Together, they won a first-place finish at the LCK Spring Split 2022 and a second-place finish at the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational.

Zeus has amazed T1 fans with spectacular performances since joining the roster in November 2020. The team set a new record by winning 26 games in a row, breaking their previous win streak of 15 games. They also had a fantastic run at the recent MSI 2022, putting on a series of overwhelming performances against top-tier teams such as G2, Royal Never Give Up, and GenG.

The entire T1 roster played exceptionally well in LCK 2022, but Zeus was particularly impressive. According to Oracle’s Elixir, he had the best KDA, highest average damage to champions per minute, and most kills during the 2022 Spring Split. However, even though Zeus had the second-highest damage share among top laners in MSI 2022, he was unable to help T1 secure a victory against RNG in the finals.

Oner’s contract extended until 2024

The renewal of T1’s contract with Zeus was followed by the agreement with Oner to stay with the team until 2024. Oner, who’s been with the organization since 2020, has become one of the most decorated junglers during the 2022 LCK Spring Split. This likely contributed to his new contract, which made him the only T1 player to have a contract extended until the 2024 season.

At the moment, Faker the team’s renowned mid-laner, is the only player on the roster without a contract renewal. The support Ryu “Keria” Min-seok and AD carry Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong have both had their contracts extended by T1 until 2023.

Can T1 qualify for Worlds?

The return of the old T1 to its original shape has been a treat for esports enthusiasts this year. Despite facing stiff competition from DAMWON KIA and Gen.G during the LCK Spring Split, they only dropped one game in the whole season. With Oner, Keria, Gumayusi, and Zeus on board for another year, T1 fans can expect another dominating LCK season from the talented roster.

On June 17, T1 will face the Nongshim RedForce in their first group stage match which will kick off the LCK Summer Split. The winners of the series qualify for the World Championship and based on T1’s recent performances, the team has a good chance of representing Korea on the international stage.
