T1 have eliminated Gen.G from the VCT Pacific Stage 2 playoffs after securing a convincing 2-0 victory in Lower Round 2. On the other side of the bracket, VARREL ended Paper Rex’s Stage 2 campaign with a 2-1 win, leaving four teams in contention heading into the decisive weekend in Busan.
The results set up a direct elimination match between T1 and VARREL on September 4. Meanwhile, Nongshim RedForce and Global Esports remain unbeaten in the playoff bracket and will meet in the Upper Final.
T1 complete another lower-bracket sweep
T1 entered the playoffs through the Play-Ins after initially losing 0-2 to Nongshim RedForce in the upper side of that qualification bracket.
Since then, their form has improved dramatically.
They beat DetonatioN FocusMe 2-0 to secure a playoff place and opened the main lower bracket by eliminating KIWOOM DRX with another straight-map victory. Gen.G represented a significantly tougher challenge, having finished the Stage 2 group phase undefeated at 5-0.
T1 nevertheless produced another 2-0.

The victory is particularly notable because Gen.G entered Stage 2 as one of the strongest teams in the region. Their perfect group-stage record earned them a direct place in the Upper Semifinals, but consecutive defeats against Nongshim and T1 ended their playoff run.
Gen.G collapse after perfect group stage
Gen.G’s elimination represents one of the biggest surprises of the Pacific postseason.
The team had looked exceptionally stable during the group phase and skipped the Play-Ins entirely. Their first playoff opponent was Nongshim RedForce, who had already upset Paper Rex 2-0.
Gen.G managed to take one map in that series but ultimately lost 1-2 and dropped into the lower bracket.
There, T1 gave them no second opportunity.
A team that entered the playoffs with a perfect 5-0 group record has now been eliminated after losing its first two postseason series.

The result also demonstrates how little protection a strong regular season provides once the double-elimination bracket begins.
VARREL send Paper Rex home
Paper Rex suffered an equally painful exit.
PRX began the playoffs with a 0-2 defeat against Nongshim RedForce but responded by sweeping ONSIDE GAMING in Lower Round 1.
That recovery ended against VARREL.
The Japanese roster had dropped into the lower bracket following a 0-2 loss to Global Esports but managed to defeat Paper Rex 2-1, preserving its own season while eliminating one of Pacific’s most experienced international organizations.

For Paper Rex, the elimination ends their direct Stage 2 playoff run toward the regional championship. Their broader Champions situation depends on the qualification system and Championship Points rather than this bracket alone.
Nongshim and Global control the upper bracket
While established names fall into elimination matches, Nongshim RedForce and Global Esports have emerged as the two strongest playoff teams so far.
Nongshim have beaten Paper Rex and Gen.G, while Global defeated KIWOOM DRX and swept VARREL.
Both therefore remain undefeated in the main playoff bracket.
Their Upper Final on September 4 will determine the first Grand Final participant. The loser receives another opportunity in the Lower Final one day later.
That makes the final weekend particularly demanding for T1 and VARREL. Whoever wins their Lower Round 3 meeting must then immediately face the Upper Final loser before earning the right to play for the Stage 2 championship.
Busan weekend decides the champion
VCT Pacific Stage 2 concludes at Sajik Indoor Gymnasium in Busan.
The Upper Final and T1-versus-VARREL elimination match take place on September 4. The Lower Final follows on September 5, before the Grand Final decides the Stage 2 champion on September 6.
Four teams remain:
Nongshim RedForce and Global Esports control the upper route, while T1 and VARREL have no remaining margin for error.
Assessment
The VCT Pacific playoffs have overturned much of the hierarchy established during the group stage.
Gen.G entered the postseason undefeated but leave after only two series. Paper Rex, another organization accustomed to deep international runs, have suffered the same fate after losing to Nongshim and VARREL.
T1 have taken advantage of the chaos. Their route through the Play-Ins was difficult, but three consecutive 2-0 elimination victories suggest the roster is finding its strongest form at exactly the right time.
VARREL will now determine whether that recovery continues.
For Nongshim and Global Esports, the situation is considerably more comfortable. Both remain one series away from the Grand Final and have already beaten several of the region’s biggest names.
The final weekend in Busan will decide whether Pacific’s established powers can recover or whether Stage 2 completes a broader shift toward the region’s emerging contenders.
