Mighty T1 overcame the ferocious Gen.G in the finals of the 2022 LCK Spring Split 2022, becoming the first team to qualify for MSI Busan, South Korea.

T1 remained undefeated through the LCK and the team entered the finals with the same momentum. On the other hand, second-seeded Gen.G was looking for revenge on the 2020 Spring Split finals, where T1 thrashed Gen.G 3-0 and claimed the LCK trophy and MSI spot.

The stakes were very high, and both teams were expected to deliver. Both teams faced off against each other twice in the current season’s group stage. However, due to Covid-19, Gen.G was unable to field their full roster, and T1 dominated both matches, retaining their status as South Korea’s best team.

T1 advanced to the finals after defeating each and every rival they faced. Gen.G was well aware of the mighty T1’s capabilities, especially when the team was “Undefeated”.

LCK Spring Split Finals 2022

The finals commenced as expected, with T1 taking an early lead. T1’s every move was backed up by the momentum gained by the team over the previous 19 victories. While Gen.G was able to put Faker on the defense, Gumayusi came as a surprise and caught them off guard. Gen.G made desperate efforts to avoid repeating the 2020 finals but they couldn’t stand a chance against the storming performance of Gumayusi with a 10/0/2 K/D/A on Caitlyn’s pick. T1 breezed through the game in just 30 minutes, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

However, T1 gained an early advantage again in the second round but Ruler and Chovy refused to surrender, at least not without a fight. They shattered T1’s mid-game composition to make an incredible comeback in the series. T1 attempted to counter, but it was too late, and Gen.G tied the series 1-1, putting the pressure back on T1 in the Supercharged Finals.

T1 absorbed the pressure and emitted incredible play in return. The team smashed the Jungler Peanut and top laner Doran back and forth to build early pressure in the game. Gumayusi with his outstanding Jinx play destroyed Gen.G’s attack in the Baron lane and Oner hammered the last nail in the coffin with his monstrous play on Viego to gain a 2-0 lead over the opponent after a 37-minute long match.

The team continued the momentum in game four and the game went similarly to the previous one except it was Oner this time who neutralized the threat in the top lane and put Gen.G on the backfoot early in the game. To help T1 finish the game, Faker unleashed hell with Ahiri, leaving Gen.G vulnerable. T1 clinched the series one-sided at the 28-minute mark of the game to become South Korea’s champions.

T1 becomes the first team to qualify for MSI

They will compete in the LCK’s Mid-Season Invitational in May, which will be held in their home region of Busan, SouthΒ  Korea. This will be T1’s first time competing in an international event with a home crowd cheering them on, and based on their “Undefeated” run at LCK, it appears to be their best chance at the international as well.

T1, a South Korean behemoth, has been crowned the 2022 LCK champions, becoming the first team in history to go unbeaten for an entire split with a record of 20 wins in the regular season and playoffs.
