The last Dota Pro Circuit Major of the season is just around the corner, set to take place between August 4-14. Given its huge number of DPC points (4570), its results will have a big impact on the global Dota 2 rankings.

Unfortunately for the organizers of the Arlington Major, some of the players will be unable to attend and one of the 18 teams will not participate at all due to visa issues. In some cases, such as Fnatic’s, no less than three substitutes had to be allowed by PGL to avoid a disaster.

Missing players and their stand-ins

The following players will miss the tournament and they will be replaced by:

  • Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko will be replaced by Jonas “SabeRLight-“ Volek
  • Worawit “Q” Mekchai will be replaced by Kenny “Xepher” Deo
  • Herrera “DarkMago” Gonzalo – it is not yet clear who will replace him
  • Marc “Raven” Luis – his replacement is not yet known
  • Armel “Armel” Tabios – his replacement is not yet known
  • Jaunuel “Jaunuel” Arcilla – his replacement is not yet known

Overall, four teams will compete with at least one stand-in at PGL Arlington Major: Entity, Talon Esports, Thunder Awaken, and Fnatic. By far, the worst situation is faced by Fnatic, who will need to find three replacements. This pretty much means that they have no chance of getting a top result and might lose their top 12 spot.

Right now, Fnatic are ranked 10th with 1020 DPC points. After the tournament concludes, the top 12 teams will receive direct invitations to The International 2022. So far, the top eight competitors have pretty much guaranteed themselves a spot in the competition.

Here are the teams that already secured themselves a spot at PGL Arlington Major 2022:

  • Thunder Awaken: 1540 points
  • LGD: 1500 points
  • TSM: 1380 points
  • OG: 1340 points
  • Beastcoast: 1295 points
  • Tundra Esports: 1212 points
  • Gaimin Gladiators: 1130 points
  • BOOM Esports: 1122 points

The missing team

China will not be able to send one of its strongest Dota 2 teams, Xtreme Gaming. This is where Zhang “Paparazi” Chengjun and Ren “old eLeVeN” Yangwei play, among other strong competitors from the region. Despite their best efforts, they did not receive visas and will need to watch the tournament from home.

Xtreme Gaming would have had a decent chance of scoring enough points at PGL Arlington Major to secure a spot in the top 12. With their current 440 points, they would have needed a top four result, which is not impossible for a team of their calibre.
