In an effort to deepen its commitment to mobile gaming, Sony Interactive Entertainment has acquired Berlin-based Savage Game Studios for its recently established PlayStation Studios Mobile Division.

Sony has established a brand-new, independent division called PlayStation Studios Mobile Division to create new games for mobile devices, extending its territory beyond Console and PC titles. Members of the recently purchased Savage Game Studios will work with the company’s new mobile subsidiary to develop games that live up to the PlayStation Games benchmark. The mobile division is anticipated to function independently from console game development, according to the most recent company release. The acquisition cost, however, has not been made public due to contractual obligations.

Michail Katkoff, Nadjim Adjir, and Michael McManus, three seasoned game developers with decades of knowledge and experience, founded Savage studio in 2020. Each member of the team is a highly skilled game developer in their own right, and they are renowned for producing AAA titles for the mobile gaming market.

The veterans have prior experience working on a variety of projects, such as Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man, Wargaming’s World of Tanks, Supercell’s Clash of Clans, and Rovio’s Angry Birds. Despite not having released a game yet, Savage Game Studios were funded $4.4 million last year to develop a mobile shooter game. As of yet, no details about the game have been revealed, but the team has already begun work on an unannounced AAA mobile live service action game,

Sony makes another attempt to break into the mobile gaming industry

In a recent announcement, Sony revealed that it would publish games on more platforms, with PC ports being the primary focus. However, it has recently come to light that PlayStation wants to dominate not only the PC market but also the mobile one. Sony’s decision to create a new division and acquire Savage Game is entirely in line with its objective to spread its intellectual property into PC and mobile gaming.

The company has even declared that it intends half of its games to be available on PC and mobile devices by the year 2025. Additionally, Sony stated that investing money into PC and mobile platforms might result in a substantial boost in both user base and income. Sony’s last notable attempt in the mobile market was witnessed in 2015, which failed miserably. Beginning in 2012, PlayStation Mobile served as a development, shop, and support system for independent games on Android devices and the doomed PlayStation Vita.
